Drum spinning during wash cycle

I had the machine apart last week with what ended up being a simple fix of the agitator coupler. After putting it back together the perforated drum is spinning the same speed as the agitator and every rotation it makes 2 knocks. There is what looks like a balancing weight right underneath the drum in the cabinet that is spinning, I dont think this is supposed to move during the wash cycle. If I grab the inner drum with my hand during the wash cycle I can keep it from spinning but it does **** with every **** of the agitator.

If when in the wash cycle the tub spins then the brake in the cluch assembly is worn and to be replaced. this holds the tub from moving when in the wash cycle. thanks tallpaul

Kenmore 80 series will spin when draining, but not agitate or spin during spin cycle.

Hello. I'm a little confused at the description of the problem. You indicated it, "will not agitate during wash cycle or spin during the spin cycle." But later in your description you indicated, "It will however, drain and spin after wash cycle and during the rinse cycle." I'm not sure if you description was an error but it sounds like you will need to replace the coupling which is part number 285753A.

My Maytag Heavy duty 4 speed select, 10 cycle washing machine agitates while in spin cycle why?

If your Maytag washing machine is agitating during the spin cycle, it could be due to a few different issues. Here are some possible causes:
  1. Defective Transmission: The transmission in the washing machine is responsible for shifting the agitator and the drum between the spin and agitation cycles. If the transmission is defective, it may not be able to engage or disengage the agitator properly, causing it to spin during the spin cycle.
  2. Worn Drive Belt: The drive belt connects the motor to the transmission and helps to control the speed and direction of the agitator and drum. If the belt is worn or damaged, it may not be able to properly control the agitator, causing it to spin during the spin cycle.
  3. Malfunctioning Clutch: The clutch in the washing machine helps to regulate the spin and agitation cycles. If the clutch is not functioning properly, it may not be able to disengage the agitator during the spin cycle, causing it to spin along with the drum.
  4. Faulty Timer: The timer controls the various cycles and functions of the washing machine, including the spin and agitation cycles. If the timer is faulty, it may not be able to properly sequence the cycles, causing the agitator to spin during the spin cycle.
It's best to have a professional technician inspect and diagnose the issue to determine the exact cause and the necessary repairs.

Maytag Atlantis Washer makes loud noise only during wash cycle (not spin)

Top Loader? That sounds like a gearbox problem. It is not an easy fix. With that much use and those many years, it is probably time for a new one. A new High Efficiency Front Loader, will save you a fortune in water, electricity and detergent.

Try this forum though if you want to try and get it fixed.
