1. you will have to designate the laptop or allow it to connect by entering it into the 3com router.
2. try connecting to the router via ethernet cord (that is connecting with a physical straight through cord) that came with the router.
If connected with this then you will have to go into the router via the IP set 192.168..0.1 depending on the router ip for loging in.
2. Go to the "wireless setup" and enter your MAC address for the laptop in the permissions list in the router. Instructions on how to do this is at the manufacturers site. Step by step.
3. Do the following step if instructions not found.
1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP adresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

Go the "N" router from "G". Newer hardware comes with software compatible with Win 7/8.

New Laptop will not connect with wireless

try setting it on wep with 128bit encryption.. the new certificate programs doesnt do well with out it and aswell as it doesnt perform well on wap settings so a user-certificate based authentication would be optimal for the windows 7 and most secure aswell youtube, google, and your routers websites will help you get a firm understanding of how it works

In my case I had the SX515W configured via USB with other computer with Win XP, and later working by WiFi.
With may new laptop with Win 7, I have the error with the NetSetup installation CD.
First I checked that it was possible to print via USB with the laptop, and after I added by wifi using the "add new printer wizard" as explain Quagmire69 in the link attached.
Good luck

3Com® OfficeConnect Cable/Dsl Wireless router not responding

Unless, you can try another computer to connect or there is a tiny (and I mean sometimes pinhole) reset button to push, it may have seen its last day. It has happenned to me and I picked up a little 35 dollar Belkin that worked great.

Win xp home, user accounts won't connect to net

Hey there tabath, I have recently encountered this problem. It turned out that we were connected via a switch rather than a router. It seems the switch will allow you to network with each other, but only allow the admin connection to access the internet. Please check your exact model as 3com manufactures both products. Hope this helps.Good Luck!

Windows 2000 and link sys routers

I don't even see any drivers on gateways web site for the built in network card. It may not be fully supported by 2000.
I would just buy a 3com 10/100 PCMCIA card. They automatically install in windows 2000. They make one that has a built in jack - Check out this for $3.88. Ive ordered from this company and they are ok.
