I have a Samsung Rear Projection TV HCL5515W. Getting a burning smell after the TV died wth a funny sound. (Red light still comes on). Any clues? One of the posts talks about a blown up capacitor. Any idea where I can buy those?

Well I can tell you one thing for sure. Unless you Want a Lot of guys with funny hats on in Big Red Trucks with lights on Also! Keep your machine off...UNPLUG it now! Leave it alone, let it die peacefully. Get a new one! Burning smell means ONE thing...FIRE!

The smell and sound are that of a capacitor burst. If you open the back cover you will find wax around a cylindrical object. That's it. Replace it with an exactly the same item.

I am having the same issue. In fact there was a burning smell.
Most likely the capacitor blew.
Will post if I find the part number.

on component your device may have to be on progressive. old dvd players you could switch back and forth on progressive and normal. the squigly lines sound like you need to make sure its on progressive. hook it up using the yellow video slot on player and tv (any cable will work). go into menu and look for progressive and change it on.

check all resisters around conv ic's, also replace ic that connects to the burnt resister.

sounds like your convergence IC's have fail and possibly a bad dcm. Some of there models have a small board with the ic's them. It may be cheaper to replace the board. But you can repair it if you have proper equipment
