Snow Leopard - HP LaserJet printer setup instructions

1. Upgrade install from Mac OS X v10.4, 10.5:

If updating a Mac using the Snow Leopard DVD, the install process should automatically detect your previous HP printer queue, delete, and then create a new HP printer queue using the latest HP printer drivers included in Snow Leopard.
USB printers:

1. Make sure printer is turnedOnand connected.
2. Open a document to print, and then choose File , Print .
3. Open the Printer pop-up and choose your printer.
4. If you don't see your printer, choose Add Printer , and then selectMore Printersbutton.
5. In the Name column, select the printer, then clickAdd.

Network printers:
You can connect to HP printers on your local network that use Bonjour, IP, and Open Directory, as well as shared printers connected to an Apple Airport base station.
NOTE:Apple does NOT support AppleTalk in new Mac OS X 10.6.

1. Choose File , Print .
2. Open the Printer pop-up menu and choose your printer. It may be in the Nearby Printers submenu.
3. If your printer does not appear, choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu.
4. A dialog appears listing any Bonjour, IP, shared, and Open Directory printers on your local network. It may take a minute or two for your printer to appear.

NOTE:On larger networks, outside the Bonjour link-local network, your printer may not show up in the list. You can connect to the printer using IP. An IP printer is a network printer that uses TCP/IP protocol (such as JetDirect, LPD/LPR, IPP) to communicate with your printer. You need to know the IP address or DNS name.

1. Click IP in the toolbar.
2. Select HP Jetdirect - Socket in the Protocol pull down menu.
3. Enter the printer's information available from printers front panel or printers network configuration page.
4. The system should automatically bind to the HP print driver in thePrint Usingpull down menu.
5. ClickAddto create the HP printer queue for your HP LaserJet.

Your computer can usually detect whether a printer has special accessories installed, such as additional paper trays, duplex unit, or extra memory. If it can't, a dialog appears that lets you specify them. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer's installed options to enable full functionality.

Apple recommends that if you wish to go from 10.4 to 10.6 then you should purchase the 10.6 Box Set.

System Requirements to run Snow Leopard:

• Mac computer with an Intel processor
• 1GB of memory
• 5GB of available disk space
• DVD drive for installation

Snow Leopard Installation Instructions:

1. Just insert the DVD in the optical drive.
2. Restart your Mac while holding down the C key.
3. You will be guided through the installation procedure and be prompted at one point to choose which install option you want.
4. Once the Snow Leopard install is completed the Mac will restart itself.
5. You will probably be asked to register with Apple upon restart.
6. Enjoy Snow Leopard on your Mac!

Q: Can I upgrade directly from Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)?

A: Yes. Apple recommends purchasing the Mac Boxed Set for this purpose, which will also update iLife (it is unknown at the time of this writing whether older versions of iLife work with Snow Leopard) and iWork. Also note that while it has been said that the $29 upgrade will work with 10.4, it is not officially supported and may be in violation of the licensing terms.

Q: What happened to the different install options? Can't I do an Archive & Install?

A: Apple has revamped the familiar installation options for Mac OS X. You now have two choices, either a straight upgrade or a clean install. Supposedly if you choose to do a straight upgrade, what actually goes on behind the scenes is what was traditionally known as an Archive & Install.

Q: Is there anything I can do to better prepare myself for the upgrade?

A: Yes. It is advisable to run a Verify/Repair Permissions and Verify/Repair Disk in Disk Utility. You may also want to run the maintenance tasks in Onyx. And finally, it would be wise to get your applications up to date using a program like AppFresh.

I found the Mac OS driver on Epson's driver site.Hit the plus sign to see more information with instructions and a download link.

Not sure what you mean by "viable". Personally if it prints and does what I need it to do reliably/consistently I consider it viable. But that may just be me.

try using the generic drivers. in Print & Fax, click on options and supplies, click on the Drivers box and type in GEN.. and choose the Generic drivers. Hope this works.

As per someone elses post here:
# Select Print from the File menu.

If you see the message The Epson Printer Driver dealing with CD printing is not installed, click OK.

# Click Tray, select Tray 2, then click OK.

Note: If Tray 2 is not selected, the CD design will print in the wrong position.

# Click Manual Print.

# Make sure Epson Stylus Photo R(your model) is selected.

# Under Paper, select the following settings:

* Source: Manual

* Size: A4

# Click Properties.

# Select CD/DVD or CD/DVD Premium Surface for the Media Type setting.

# Click OK, then click OK again to print. 

One of the guys on this site said read the manual over and over again, and he was right.
You must go to system preferences and choose print and fax. Set the default media to A4. Then in the Print CD program when you hit print your will see fifth line down Epson Print CD on offer. Hit the arrows on the right and choose print settings from the drop down menu and then media type and choose CD / DVD. All should then work. It does on mine.
