Pull Battery, reinsert battery and then hold at the same time the power button and volume down rocker until it boots to an android recovery screen (with a droid and a white triangle with an orange exclamation mark in it) Then press the left curved arrow key at bottom of phone. The text menu will come on the screen. Then use volume keys to select and home button to select/enter. Select reset to factory defaults, scroll to YES, press home key then select reboot phone, and enter using home key. The phone will be back to factory defaults and clear the error condition and still be activated. You will need to re-setup your Goggle account, settings and apps.
Just go to phone settings in settings and reset to factory settings default. this will reset the phone to factory settings but will not clear any messages, contacts, pictures or data.. then you can go ahead and set a new password.
