I put in a netflix ps3 cd and the screen went grey and now when I restart the system it just turns grey and will not start? What can I do to fix this problem?

apparently the Netflix app wont load if a disc is not present in the drive. it doesn't matter what disc is in it. just ensure you put a disc in and then restart the system before trying to load Netflix again. works like a charm. was just playing around and figured it out. Netflix originally launched with a mandatory disc you had to have in the system for it to work but they've recently scrapped that requirement to the service however it seems the software is just programmed to check for a disc before loading as such you get a blank screen if there is no disc in the console.

First restart the ps3 and try to load the movie again see if that helps or not.
If the Netflix still only loads on your ps3 but keeps on buffering this might be cause by not enough bandwidth allocated for your ps3. Try turning off your computer and all the devices that are connected the internet. Then try again.

You can try my tip and see if it fixes it, if it does not then you have probably had a firmware failure and the console will need a specialist repair -

To do this trick, do the following:

1.Start the Netflix app from the PS3,
2.Immediately as you start the app hold the Start and

Ok, follow these steps to cure your problem. Warning, you will lose saved game data!!

Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby mode (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you press it, then beep 5 seconds later and then once more another 5 seconds later and turn off. Release the power button.
Step 3. Press and hold the power button. It will beep once when you press it, again 5 seconds later and then 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 beeps release the power button
Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect a controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then continue to the next step
Step 5. The options menu will display. Select option 5 "Restore PS3 System". The PS3 will re-install the software required and restart. Hopefully this will solve your problem

Yes this is actually quite a common error to fix it you need to readjust the laser as sometimes it can get off synch.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System.

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

If after trying the above options and it still does not solve the problem, then maybe the lens is weak and that's why it cannot read any disc.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.
