Don't know what kind of radio you have, but usually if a radio is flashing protect it is because you have a short in the wiring, a bad speaker or a bad output ic.

WE HAVE JUSTUST BOUGHT AND USED CAR AND IT HAS COME WITH A KENWOOD DDX-0512 RADIO/CD PLAYER BUT WE CANNOT GET IT TO WORK AS IT KEEPS FLASHING "PROTECT

There should be a code that the past owner forwarded you or left inside the owners manual. I found this great video on Youtube that should help you if your stuck. Good Luck.

Radio flashes PROTECT

Check you user guide for resetting the radio code. Your dealer (or the previous owner) should have given you the code. It may be in your radio user manual.

Is this the original radio unit or an aftermarket radio unit?

Kenwood kdc-mp345u keeps flashing protect, and i've disconnected the speakers and unplugged the radio for about 30 min, plugged radio back in still flashing protect

Chances are pretty good either the output ic or the volume control ic inside of the radio are bad. Both require the ability to use a soldering iron to replace.

My radio keeps saying "Protect"

First make sure your speakers and speaker wires have not shorts or grounds. If they all check out good try pressing the reset switch (usually a small pencil tip sized indentation on the front of the face or behind the face on the sub panel. If it still reads protect after that, you may have a bad output ic.

"Protect" keeps flashing on my stereo and it will

You might have a speaker wire crossed....Pull radio out but leave hooked up if possible.....Unhook one set of speaker outputs at a time from the radio and power on....Keep doing this until all speaker wires are undone....If you undo a set and the radio works like normal, then the fualt lies in those wires.

MY KDC-MP3342U SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING! IT JUST KEEPS FLASHING ...'PROTECT'! REPEATEDLY! HELP!

Protect only comes on when an RCA is grounding out, speaker is blown or the speaker wires are shorting out. Check all your wiring on the head unit and see if all are insulated with tape or better and if there's an exposed wire, tape it up. Make sure that all connections are secured. Then double-check your fuses. Check all of your speakers and their wiring because going into protect mode is the units way of saying you have a problem with your speakers or wiring.

If your speakers and wiring all check out, disconnect your radio wiring harness, and then reconnect the harness. This resets your radio, and your radio should be working again.

If you need to enter the security code, try the default unlock code of 5227.

You can also try to reset your code if the default doesn't work. Try 'KCAR' or '3051'.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!
