The dryer is causing the breaker to trip

The dryer gets too hot and causes the breaker to trip. When I take the lint catcher out and prop open the lint catcher door, it runs longer before causing the breaker to trip. Can I run it without using the lint catcher? Is this problem fixable or is a new dryer in my future? The dryer is only 6 years old...

The vents are most likely stoped up . All the lint & anything around the fan all the way to the outside vent needs cleaned . I have found a lot of things in front of the fan nails coins & whatever that were in clothes pockets sometimes the lint or other things won't let the fan turn & the breaker or thermal fuse to blow. Hope this helps

SOURCE: kenmore dryer

Jeff, almost sounds like a timer issue, but I was fooled on this once. Under the consol is a inline resistor from the main plug. If this resistor is bad, dryer keeps running in timed dry. Part number for the resistor is 3401076. Look it up on the web so you know what it looks like. Just splices in.. Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: whirlpool electric dryer keeps tripping main circuit breaker

First off, be sure the pigtail is wired correctly to the back of the unit. Black and red to the outside terminals, white to the middle, green to the frame or cabinet (should be a green screw close-by). If that is ok, you probably have an issue with possibly a bad pigtail, bad outlet, wiring issue, or possibly a bad circuit breaker or breaker box. Probably going to be more of a electrical problem than a appliance problem. Good Luck!!!!

SOURCE: Power Button will not turn on.

Verify proper line voltage is present at the outlet. This will require the use of a voltage meter. If not properly trained, I would consult an electrician to verify the voltage.
Part of the troubleshooting proceedure requires the technician to verify that the applience is receiving the required supply power.
This has to be verified at the outlet to eliminate the possibility of a bad breaker or bad connection inside the breaker panel or outlet box.
Hope this helps in finding the solution to your problem..
Thanks and good luck..

My gas drier shuts off before clothes are dried

Also it can be a few other issues:

1: It could be an issue with the lint catcher. Take the lint catcher out, clean off all the see-able lint, then take it to the bathroom and try to run water through it. If the water settles or doesn't run through very well, take an old toothbrush and scrub that clean under water until water passes through easily. This issue caused my dryer to shut off without being dry too
2: Depending on how new your dryer is, it may have a dryness sensor in it. That sensor may not be working well or at all causing the problem as well.
3: Finally your heater could be going out in your dryer and causing it to hot get hot enough in the time you set for the clothes to be dry.

Hope these 3 things help you.

Will not get hot

Hi,

Check the blown fuses and home’s circuit breaker tripped. Dryer use 2 household Fuses or a circuit breakers, Replace the Fuses or reset the circuit breaker. Make sure that the lint filter and exhaust duct is clean.

Another common cause of a dryer failing to heat is a faulty heating element. You will need to replace it.

Good Luck and have a nice day.

My Amana NED7200TW dryer still shuts down with no power and after a couple minutes it will power up again. I checked the circuit breaker but the breakers were not tripped. Help!

Sounds like an internal over-temp thermostat is tripping. Usually, this is caused by near-zero air flow through the machine. Vacuum out the exhaust hose, the exit fitting from the house, and all of the dryer's interior air path that you can reach. Wash out the lint filter with detergent and HOT water as fabric softener deposits will plug the screen. Check the exterior vent for air flow while it's running--it should be fairly forceful (and hot!). Hope this helps!

Dryer "poping" and blowing breaker

Any wires in the upper portion of your dryer would not be to blame, and the heater coils are usually encased in ceramic loops. so they shouldn't cause a problem. On occasion the wires in a dryer could be touching somewhere that is hot melting the insulation off the wire, this sounds like it could be your problem. Check all the wires in the heated areas around your drum and lint catcher. If you find charred wires repair them and tape with electrical tape and then tape over that with automotive heat tape.

Seem to all of the sudden have problem when dryer gets warm the breaker trips? anyone know why that might be.dryer has been on the same outlet for 2 years.

Hi, When a breaker starts to trip on any appliance, it is drawing more amps then the unit is rated for. It should have a double pole 30 amp breaker if it is a 240 volt dryer. The first thing I would check would be the breaker and the 2 hot wires feeding it. Over the years, the wiring sometimes loosens up due to heat and they may be loose and just need to be tightened up. If you turn the breaker off, it kills the voltage to the wires going into it and you can then tighten them. If you are not comfortable doing this, maybe you know someone that can help you out. Also, overloading the dryer with a lot of cloths will cause the breaker to trip. I am sure that after 2 or more years that you are aware of this, just another cause. You may also have a problem in the motor, which draw a lot of amps if it over heats. You may have a lot of lint build-up around the motor and heating elements that should be cleaned out by removing the back of the dryer. Be sure the power is off before though. Try running the dryer with no cloths in it to see if the breaker still trips. If it still trips, I would say you are loosing the motor, but would check the breaker anyway. Please let me know what you find.
Sincerely, shastalaker7

No heat in dryer and can't find reset button

Unplug the dryer. Disconnect the vent hose from the wall and clear any lint etc. from the opening. Anything clogged with lint will continue to cause the heating element to "trip" for safety reasons.
Open the top by pressing in on the hidden metal clips on the right and left front (there is a small gap below the top section) Use a putty knife or screw driver to press in on the clips. Lift up like a car hood and then prop it up while you're working. Next open the dryer door. Remove the two screws on either side of the lower opening. Now lift the front up and out, set off to the left side as it is still connected by a wire. Look into the lower right side of the dryer with a flashlight. The reset button is located between the two wires that attach to the outside of the cylindrical drum at the 7 o'clock position. You need to be lying on the floor so you can reach your hand in. It is about halfway into the dryer. Press the button. Now reassemble the dryer before you start it up again. For a gas dryer - let it run and you should hear it "fire" up within a minute and the heating will begin.
