My B&S 2050psi, 2.0 GPM, 3.75HP, doesn't want to start. I prime it as per the directions, good gas, spark plug good. I can flood it with gas and it runs until all the gas is used up then stops. I don't know why it's not able to get any gas from the tank on it's own. Once it starts shouldn't there be a vaccum that draws gas from the tank? Any ideas?

Your carb is stopped up somewhere. Pull the carb, clean it and it'll run.

SOURCE: I do like to know if this washer is good enough

We power washed houses for years with a 2400psi machine. The machine weighed about 90 pounds. 1 strong man could pick up the weight, but usually it took 2 men to unload it from the trailer.

A small machine can advertise 2400 psi ... but that is for 3 square inches at a time. The heavier machine shoots a 10" or wider swath of 2400psi.

We ran our machine twice a week for years. We had a honda engine. I'm sure the briggs engine is good. I wouldn't buy a used machine... unless the price was low and it started on first pull. Electric starter on your power washer might be a repair-waiting-to-happen because it is constantly exposed to water and dirt.

SOURCE: lawnmower has been in storage for 6 months. Has

this is from a post i just did for anothe engine but i think it applies to you also.

get a product called START. this stuff is amazing it has solved all my engine problems including a couple like yours. any wal mart should have it. add to your gas and the longer it runs the better it runs. i am telling you it is worth the 6 bucks. i had a 4wheeler that never ran right, always had to half choke it. even though i cleaned the carb twice. added this stuff and by the time that tank was gone it was running like new. if that doesnt take care of your problem then it needs to go to the shop Now your situation i know is dirt or varnish in the carb i have had this problem also. and start worked for me on that also. mix it in the gas and keep it running even if you have to keep priming it

SOURCE: The generator will start and run on full choke

Running only with choke on means the engine is starved for fuel with choke off. Things to check:
Fuel tank vent... Fuel filter... Fuel valve... fuel hose... carb float and valve... plugged jets.
In short everything that has to do with fuel delivery and vaporization.

SOURCE: Hi. I have a Briggs & Stratton 2800PSI gas

if it wont start, check for spark.how you do that,ok take the spark plug wire out put it close to the sparkplug(use some gloves or something to insulate your self from get electric shot from the spark) find some one who pull the start rope, if you dont see any spark between wire and spark plug, tehre its not spark ,it will never start.you will have to remove the start recoil on the botton is like a damper whitch will have to be remove also ,on botton of it its like a coil whitch with the rotation of the damper when you pull the starter rope provoke the spark and send it to spark plug along with the gas combution get the engine started.that coil some time goes bad and have to be change.if you have electric starter. check the starter also.good luck

2003 toyota sienna wont start sometimes But does turn over. Its not getting gas. After pumping pedal its starts

its not getting gas, is that a guess? or the results of a real test.
as per FSM book.?
the only test that proves not getting gas, is all spark plugs out and all are white and dry. (NOT GETTING GAS to the combustion chambers)
i think its flooding (sparks wet)
and all cars clear floods, with wide open throttle cranking, (A feature)
this magic feature, cuts all fuel cranking, to clear said flood.
(oper, guide covers this)

if this works,
ever consider a full tuneup? this decade? with filters?
if tuned up, then scan it to see if there are DTC errors cranking?
check for spark , during failures. ?
check for flooding? spark good,!
there are many causes of flooding, (spark good, tuned up)
  • too high fuel pressure
  • injectors leaking
  • fuel regulator bad.
  • no air supply starting, bad IAC STUCK CLOSED,
Try starting with 5% throttle ,creating a good human made, IAC, (fresh air)
each line has tests we do,, if you dont have tools, all this is just
water under the bridge.

do you want guessing (unsaid)
here:
  1. never tuned up.
  2. too high fuel pressure and flooding.
  3. and many more. i just rolled dice 2 times.

1988 jeep Cherokee Laredo won't start turns over ,has spark, gets fuel

no engine size stated, (so i toss coin, 4.0L) 5miilion strong.
the 1988 is the gawd awful French RENIX fuel injection.
i owned 2 of these pigs. (sure it runs) but sux.
why?, no CEL lamps , no flash codes, no OBD1 , no OBD ! anything.
only the very old and rare factory and dealer tools can scan this pig.
lets do this better?
in vivid details.
NO start 101: (order matters too)
  1. compression at spec, on all 6 cylinders? (old engines do die)
  2. spark at all 6 spark plugs good,? not just 1.
  3. car is tuned up. spark plugs.cap rotor, wires, and filters?
  4. the ign timing light on #1 wire, shows spark landing near TDC 0 degrees or under hood stated spec. (open hood look up )
  5. i now check for flooding, is it? spark tips , TALK to me.?
  6. yes, then check fuel pressure. next.
  7. no, then are they dry, you said wet. ('gets fuel means what"?)
  8. if flooding, i unplug the fuel pump relay and start car with test fuel if it runs for 3 seconds and stops, that is a PASS condition so but if not 1, to 7 above was skipped. lets say its flooding
  9. if flooding did you try cranking per opr guide wide open throttle? this CUTS all fuel and clears all flooding on all gas engines. and for sure all EFI. gas engines.
  10. my guess is its running now. right? if here?
  11. if not, check fuel pressure per the fsm cranking, and the MAP sensor. out put voltage key on, and cranking. and post that.
  12. good luck.

get the engine to run on test fuel first. this saves big time labor
down time, and wasted parts , guessed at)

doing a real tuneup , is not ever a waste.
a tuned up engine pays back in lower gas costs. big time.
fuel is expensive.

Ridgid rd80702 will not start

Sounds like the float is stuck open. A few taps with a screwdriver handle on the fuel reservoir might fix the problem.

I have a yardman lawnmower it has gas, oil level is good but wont start, even after priming, priming is 3 pushes of the prime button, i did as directed and still wont start after pulling the cord for 15...

If the fuel pumped when you prime then the next step would be to check the spark. This can be done by removing the spark plug and then reattaching the wire to the plug and grounding the plug to the engine block. Then you need to have someone to try and start it, while watching for spark. It is easier to see if this is not done in bright sunlight. If no spark seen or heard, then it is either the spark plug or the ignition module, most likely the spark plug. If you have another machine available you can pull the plug wire and hook it to the plug from your mower and ground it to the block and try starting. If you get good spark, then the problem is the ignition module, if no spark, then replace plug.

My 98 xr400 will not start. It seams to be flooded but it doesn,t even sputter if I don't move the choke at all. If I put the choke on half open it almost starts but then I think it floods. I changed...

Check to see if you have spark. Put a plug in the cap and touch the cylinder , kick it over to see if the plug is sparking. I kick mine 2 or 3 times to prime the cylinder holding decompression lever in. If it pops on full choke but does not start I go to half choke. If it does not start after 3 or 4 kicks , then I turn off the choke and kick it over 5 or 6 times with the decompression lever pulled to clear it. Then I will kick with no choke or half choke. Honda's are notorious for being cold blooded so when it starts let it warm up and do not be afraid to drive a short distance on half choke till the motor warms up a little.
When the machine is hard to start after sitting I usually start by removing the carburetor and shooting carburetor cleaner through the jets and passageways.I have always found my 96 xr400 to be a dependable starter with fresh gas and a clean carburetor. If it is flooded use the decompression lever to clear the cylinder.

Power max generator battery is charged spark plug is firing engine is cranking but will not start. Is there some other shut off switch or valve I am not finding?

with a charged battery and good ignition spark, there are just a few things which will prevent an internal combustion engine from starting...

clogged or shut off fuel supply. check for valves or filters or kinks in fuel lines.

spark may be there, but timing may be off if ignition is non-electronic and automatically set.

if fuel is gasoline, engine may be flooded with fuel. if you smell unburnt gas around the exhaust, fuel regulation/carburetor may be stuck in "too-open" position. on cars with carburetors, this can be cured pretty easily by holding the throttle WIDE OPEN and cranking the engine until the air pumped through it evaporates enough excess fuel to get to an ignitable mixture. same for 2-cycle engines like chain saws, too. see if throttle can be held open by hand until the engine starts.

good luck!

It won't start.

Prime away... on a chainsaw it does NOT squirt fuel into carb. It draws fuel from tank, through carb, and returns it to tank.
Using the choke however will flood it in a second once it has fired. with a good fuel supply, 99.5 % of chainsaw won't start problems are flooded. Lou
