The flashing screen (or blinking light) problem is very common with the NES. The system turning off and on is caused by the lockout chip is not recognizing the cartridge and prompting a reset once every second. This problem is usually caused by either a bad 72 pin connector or your game contacts being oxidized with a greasy film or dirty.

The solution is to first clean your game contacts to see if that fixes the problem. I would recommend getting a game bit key and taking the game apart for cleaning, but if that is not an option, use a q-tip with electrical carbon cleaner (such as Deoxit) to clean the metal contacts. If your games are clean and you still have the blinking, it's probably time for a new 72 pin connector.

The red light flashes on my NES and on the TV screen, it keeps on changing colors. Do you know whats wrong?

The NES is touchy like that, sadly-- your problem isn't uncommon. My NES, and the NES of nearly every friend I have who still owns one, plays this little trick on them from time to time. Here's what we do:

1. Turn off the NES console.
2. Blow into bottom of the game, near the chip that connects to the NES.
3. Wipe away any excess dust from the game itself.
4. Blow into the console of the NES.
5. Wipe away any excess dust.
6. Re-insert the game and try again.

If this doesn't work, try placing the game in more delicately, or with more force. It's just a matter of trial and error, and sometimes it will work faster than others. Hope this helped!

When we turn on our NES system, after about 20 sec...

If you are using an RF Switch, and notice the picture quality degrading (static or "snowy" picture), we recommend trying a different RF switch. For information on ordering a replacement, click here. If that doesn't solve the problem, your system will likely need to be replaced. Due to the age of the system and games, we can no longer offer factory repair. Please click here to find out what options might be available.

My game tray wont stay down

It's easier just to buy another working NES Game Cartridge Holder as it's difficult to keep it work correctly after the plastic that holds the metal pin becomes worn at the pinnacle. That's generally what causes the problem of the cart "staying down," or the cart "refusing to stay down." Both are caused by a worn plastic bushing. They're relatively cheap so why hassle with trying to reposition the pin? You can buy one here:

System just keeps flashing blue on the screen what

Hi sounds like the common fault found with these old retro consoles. Flashing light is mostly because the system does not make good contact with the game. which may be because of a worn out connector pins in side the console or dirty games recommend cleaning all your games with a game cartridge paste cleaner and replacing the connector pin with a new one. see http://www.gameoz.com.au/store/nintendo-entertainment-system/nes-accessories/ they carry these items and included photo instructions.

Nes light keep's blinking

well, heres what you do.. turn it off, and eject the cartridge.. blow in the bottom where the chip is to get rid of any dust, and put it back in.. turn it on.. if it still blinks, turn it off, and eject the game again.. this time blow into the nes itself.. put the game back in, and turn it on.. if its STILL blinking, grab another cartridge, and TURN OFF THE NES its very important. press down on the game you want to play, like your going to eject it, but instead of letting it up, slide that second cartridge you grabbed in on top of the first one.. turn the nes on, and enjoy...

it SHOULD work... if not, try taking a q-tip and dipping it in hydrogen peroxide, and cleaning the nes and game.

Nes power light oes on and off

The nes does this to stop people from playing pirated games, but it can also be because the game cartridge or console is dirty. Try cleaning inside the game cartridge with a cotton bud dipped in a cleaning product of some kind. it mostly works for me!

When my nes isnt blinking.....

lol man i used to spend countless hours on my nes just blowing out game cartredges and looking at green screens. Ok there are many things that could be cuasing this problem check the bolts on the bottom of the cartredge to make sure there still shiney, blow the dust out of the cartredge and system, insert the cartredge and press it down turn the system on then while the cartredge is in adjust it and hit reset everytime you do. Like i sad it takes alot of patience to work a NES so just keep at it the game will eventually start if your NES is still in running condition

I have an old Nintendo nes and the power button keeps blinking on and off.

Okay, the blinking is not fixed by a new 72-pin; thats a common misconception. You need to disable your NES lock-out chip, its the reason games blink. Cut the 4th pin (lower left) on your 10-NES chip under the motherboard, its called "3193A". Do it at your own risk, if you remove the pin correctly the NES will work perfectly and never blink ever again.

How to fix my nintendo (NES) without replacing anything

Yes, this is a 72 pin connector problem. The connector has become dirty or oxidized and needs replacing or cleaning. Problem can usually be solved by buying a NES console Pin cleaner which inserts like a game. The "Eliminator" is one which works great wet or dry to eliminate this problem.
