Hi i have a 2002 sony kp-51ws500 it has faded colours and double lines i would really like to fix this problem on my own sony wants to charge me 200-300 to fix it
You probably need to replace the convergence IC's and do a good cleaning of the internal mirror and lens. This repair will involve soldering and un-soldering on the printed circuit board. If you have no printed circuit board repair experience, play it safe, and have a pro do this repair for you as that price sounds reasonable for this type of repair. Good luck!

I have the same problem. I have a 2002 Sony KP-51WS500 and the picture has finally started fading to a solid blue screen approximately 3-5 minutes after it is turned on. I can hear the sound perfect, but the picture slowly goes from perfect to purple and then finally becomes solid blue. Is it a coincidence that all these 2002/2003 models are having the same issues. Shouldn't there be a recall or recourse from Sony to correct this for the consumers at no cost ? I don't mind paying for quality or for normal routine maintenance, however, shouldn't Sony have to take responsibility for these not holding up ? Somebody please help....
