I need to replace the Li battery in my GPS II plus. I have opened the case but cannot find the number on the battery which is soldered to the board. I am an electrical engineer and know how to work with the board. Can you provide the part number, or better yet, where I can purchase a replacement. Regards, Bob

I recently ordered a replacememt battery for Nuvi 255w. I received a kit and new battery. How do I open it?

At the bottom of your device you find the label with all relevant data like type, serial number etc. This label can be easily removed by cautiously lifting one site and pulling it off. Under the label there are 2 screws which must be removed. Then you can open the case using the blade of a screw driver or a similar tool. Be cautious not to destroy the cable from the board to the screen. When the case is opened you'll find three small screws on the PCB which must also be removed. There are two connectors which can easily be removed: The cable to the speaker and more important the cable to the Li-ion battery. The battery is fixed by some clue in the case under the PCB. Replace it and reassemble the device. I hope this was helpful. Regards A. K.

Where do i get a spare battery for my hitachy pdv302 personal dvd player?

I would say the chances are you can't, but all may not be lost. I assume you're after a replacement rather than a second battery, in which case, if you're ok with a soldering iron, you can replace the cells. You will need to prize open the plastic casing and you'll then be able to see what cells it actually uses. There are surprisingly few Li-Ion battery cells in use, and they are all 7.2V, so go on line and order up some of the right size and replace them. It really is as easy as that.

Li-Ion batteries normally come charged as they must never be fully discharged (they contain a small computer that will shut off the power to prevent it) so just take care that you don't accidentally short them while working.

The lithium battery to my Garmin Nuvi 350 is giving out. My husband has figured out how to open the case, and I've tracked down replacement batteries on line. The picture of the batteries online looks as...

Well when you opened the case did you see any wire connection to battery that is soldering if yes then you need to solder or if there is the wires the replacement battery they are terminals of the battery you need carefully to main board and check the battery wires and then solder it to the board...

Good luck..

Batterys

  1. Order a new battery. http://www.all-battery.com/ It was LG Li-Ion 18650 3.7V 2400 mAh Rechargeable Battery with Tabs. Original battery is 1,800 mAh so the replacement should last longer.
  2. Take the screen cover (faceplate) off and unscrew 4 screws. You will need small Philips head screwdriver.
  3. Pull off the front of the GPS. Be carefull with the GPS antenna. Make sure you remember its position so it is easier for you to assemble it later.
  4. Unscrew 2 small screws holding metal battery retainer strip. The battery is behind it. Pull battery out and disconnect it from the board.
  5. Cut the heat shrink tube the battery is in and de-solder the joint.
  6. Solder new battery. A small 15W soldering iron will do the job perfectly. Make sure not to overheat the battery.
  7. Insulate the solder joints.
  8. Put the new battery inside a heat shrink tube. You can get it from HomeDepot. It is ¾ inch diameter.
  9. Use a heat source (I used a gas lighter) to “shrink” the tube. Again be careful not to overheat the battery as it may explode.
  10. Put battery back into instrument and screw the metal band back onto the battery.
  11. Assemble everything back together.
*NOTE* Lithium Ion batterys do not take heat well. Leaving your GPS unit on the dash on hot sunny days will decrease its expected lifespan.

Garmin gps III / internal battery replacement

March 2009 I replaced the solder type battery of my GPS III Plus with a battery holder (clip) that a “Basic CR or BR2032 Coin type battery”, without solder connections, that is, they simply clip into place. Replacement batteries can be purchased at less than a $1.00 of E-Bay.
