Did you guys ever figure out where the leak was comming from? I've got the exact same problem with my washer. I've taken the front panel off and inspected, but nothing. This is the 3rd time it's happenend to me, like you said, no reason when or why.

Check around and under the rubber front gasket for any trapped items,
if flooding happens open the bottom access panel (3 screws on bottom front) and look for leakage at that time , there is a access door safety switch to the top right that has to be closed to let the unit run.
blow some powder in the bottom to show the wet spots and/or to trace when they happen again.

Check the water pump hose connections and the water pumps housing bolts themselves could have loosened from vibration. more likely the hose connections on the pump itself though. Hope this helps.

Water leaking from the door and front panel of my Duet washer

Check the rubber door seal, sounds like its split which is common after 2-3 years use.
You can find the general area of the leak by placing dry newspaper on a dry floor beneath the machine.

My Whirlpool Duet Washer fills up 1/4 of the tub on its own.

Sounds like a defective fill valve leaking water in although the machine is off.
First turn off your water and remove the hoses. Clean the screens in the hoses and the fill valve.
If that does not correct the problem replace the fill valve.

Water filling while door is open

if water is constanty dribbling into the machine then there is a leaking water valve on the machine, if not leaking in all the time then exessive water pressure at some time, dont thing it is the control

Washer leaking from bottom

Take the front panel off of the washer, and run it through a cycle. Watch to see where the leak is coming from. Also, pay attention to the drain in the wall when it is in spin/drain. If this has a blockage in it, it might be backing up causing water to come back out of it.

If you see no leaks the next time you run it, it's possible that it splashed over while spinning because of the off balance load and may not happen again unless it becomes off balance again.
