i had the same problem, what i did was, make sure you calender is on the right date, and year.make sure u download all updates on your pc as well, then try a nice reboot and tell me what you come up with
Please check that your firewall is blocking the messenger. If you donot have fire wall installed then its a virus or Spy ware is blocking else the messenger is corrupted. First check firewall settings.
