Check the speakers impedance. it should be greater then 6ohm otherwise you overload the system. Also, if the speaker sytem is rated (in Watts) below the amplifier's power it overloads the amp at higher volumes.

Hi there, when I switch my unit on, it turns off automatically within a second.

No! there is a problem in the audio output ic's "more than likely shorted parts" check to make sure there are no shorts in the speaker wiring, if okay! I'am afraid it is bad outputs.

MARANTZ SR8500 WILL NOT POWER UP

The audio output stage has a load causing the auto protect to kick in. First check speaker wires for shorts, if okay it is the above mentioned.

The same thing happened to me and i just had to reset the system by turning it off and then holding input+settings for like 5 seconds until it shows what firmware version you've got it meqans it's reseted and that should solve your problem.

Marantz SR-940

Just finish repairing Marantz SR 940 with no sound output. Problem was a clamped speakers relay located behind the speakers lugs (red and black post connectors). To reach the relays you must remove the little circuit board behind those colored connectors et unsolder the posts. There is 2 relays, one for A set and one for B set of speakers. Very EASY when you know the solution!!

Polk Audio RC55i In-Wall Surround Speakers (can't hear whispers)

I'd make sure that the receiver surround mode is set for one of the digital settings, such as Dolby Digital or DTS, and make sure that you have the center channel level adjusted to a level similar to the other two front channel speakers. I've seen/heard this happening when using dolby digital material & having surround set on something like 'hall' or 'stadium' or dolby surround, where only 4 channels are used & the amp has to 'mix' sounds to the left & right front speakers. It'll often sound like the actors on screen are talking out of the bottom of a barrel, with a hollow & tinny character to the voices.

Total loss of sound...what to do?

please repeat your setting first- and then disconnect all speaker out.
connect your speaker one by one until you find the bad one and change it-you can also apply contact cleaner spray over volume control and move it many times-please do not forget yo unplug headphone jack first.
