Amana model DLW33ORAW smoking on spin cycle and making loud screaching noise as if the bearings were shot. I am sure it will cost more than its worth to repair. Good thing I was home as the house filled with smoke. It smelled as if the machine was on fire. When I lifted the door, the tub was stuck and not moving while in spin cycle. The unit is 6 yrs old and used at two loads a week by just one person.

do you actually see smoke or is it you have a burning smell
if you have a smell the motor may be overloading on spin
sometimes this is due to too much soap powder in wash
and when machine spins the water cant get away due to soap suds under and around bowl
acts like a brake on motor
try no soap powder in next wash
a good way to tell is that you still have soap in washing if you lift the lid (with no soap powder added)

Yikes, I would buy a new washer for that price. Also try calling another local appliance tech out and see his price on fixing the problem. You may also be able to fix it yourself but you will have alot to remove

Hi, You can unsnap the plastic splash ring and see if something is between the tubs. The inner tub turns rather hard anyways. The agitator might have a 1/4" screws in the side of it to hold it onto the shaft of the transmission. If not, just pull the agitator up real hard.
Under the agitator is a spanner nut that holds the inner tub in place. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

You are right on about the belt. If the tub every gets jammed by a full load and has trouble turning, the drive belt can get heated up ( kind of like spinning tires on the road...you get a smell and everything still works).
I would suggest pulling the front cover to expose the belts...look underneath. There are usually two one for the drive and one for the pump. I'd replace them both... with extreme heat, it can change the belt enough that it won't operate correctly with bigger loads.
