Dryer smelled of burning plastic, smoked stopped turning on
After being used for about 4 loads the edryer turned off and at about 2 am filled the basement with smoke and smelled of burning plastic. We took the dryer apart and vacumed out all the lint, cleaned everything out, did not see any burnt wires but it still will not work. We have unplugged it because now when plugged in it smells of burning plastic

check the bottom of the oven to see what's down there and clean it out. Check the broiler coils themselves to make sure they are not coated in something. Things that smell like burning plastic, often are, which is poisonus. Also things that smell like burning plastic often cause spontanious electric fires, which are WAY dangerous. Figure it out before using the broiler again. The life you save could be your own.
Hi Mike, You mentioned the turn signal switch can cause burning plastic smell from under the hood (12 years ago on a Chevy)
I drive a 2005 Acura MDX Touring 4D SUV. Two weeks ago, I noticed a light flickering behind the VTM-4 button. At a stop light, I turned on the left blinker and it wouldn't stop blinking.
An hour before, my SUV would not start. When I turned the steering wheel slightly right, the car finally started. I was performing deliveries, so I couldn't take a chance for the car not to start again. Therefore, I just kept the car running to finish my shift.
When the blinker would not shut off, I had to end my shift. Once I arrived home, I just parked the car: The left blinker continued to blink. I tried to start the car again and it just clinked along with the blinking left turn signal.
The next morning, I attempted to start the car again. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I turned the steering wheel slightly right and it started. However, the left blinker remained on.
I tried to start the car once again and only heard clicking. All of a sudden, I smelled a burning plastic smell and a small amount of smoke came from under the hood.
I was thinking about pulling the fuse to the turn signal. I've had past challenges with starting the car and the VTM-4 and engine light light on. OBD codes produced a Bay 2 Sensor 2 O2 sensor. In the past, my left fog light got knocked off and the connectors are exposed.
Would greatly appreciate your expert advice on what I can do to start this car up and to cancel out the left turn signal. Thank you for your time.

OK, this model has a known issue with a bad pump design. The bearing on the pump goes bad and will lock up. The burning smell is the belt trying to turn the pump. Look under the unit and see if you see rubber residue at the pump. Here is the pump to order. To replace the pump, tilt the unit back and remove the belt. Remove the back lower left side access panel. Remove the 2 hoses, then the 3 bolts that hold the pump down. Replace in reverse order. The pump is a new design it looks completely different but will last you the life of the unit.
My dryer did the same thing. I had to replace the front support glide assembly and needed 4 teflon glides.
The front part of the dryer runs over this plastic piece seen here upside down.
this part is about $50 CAN there are 4 plastic or teflon glides that fit into this.
My dryer had worn through the teflon glides and start wearing away this piece.
My dryer is a GE front load dryer. And I did get a burning smell because the dryer was wearing away the plastic. After the teflon strips wore down.
Hope this helps
The drum belt could be rubbing on something inside. Does the dryer make a squeeking noise? Se if there are small rubber particles on the bottom, this will indicate a deteriating belt.
I recommend to stop the use of the dryer immediately and call an expert repairman to your home. The smell of burning can only mean bad things, so better safe than sorry.
I would check the drainpump ans see if there is something jammed inside like a coin or screw, nail etc before doing anything else .Unplug the machine first though . A burning smell will occur with a load of water trying to spin .
