No communication I am not computer savvy. Until recently, the only storage medium I used was a floppy. Yesterday, I placed a Cruzer Micro USB 2.0 flash drive into my office computer, I used the tour launchpad function and opened programs to view them. I attempted multiple times to close every program before ejecting the flash drive. In desperation, I ejected the drive even though I continued to get an error message cautioning me about the loss of data. Now, My flash drive will not light nor work on my home computer. Is the flash drive destroyed? What should I do to make it work again? Janet

I have the same problem. My 2GB SanDisk was working fine (had saved a document to it 1 hr prior). I left disk in place and MS WORD running while I made phone call. When I tried to save current doc to SanDIsk, I couldn't get the computer to recognize it (tried all USB ports and another computer). So, what now?

How to reformat a flash drive

Hi jabbbbbb6,
The Cruzer Micro is a flash storage device that connects to your computer's USB port. It comes in various sizes and fits on a keychain. If you want to erase the drive, you can perform a reformat from within Windows' Disk Management utility. After you reformat the drive, you do not need to reinstall any drivers because Windows automatically detects the device.

To Reformat, please follow the instructions:
1. Insert the Cruzer Micro to an available USB port on your computer. Right-click "Computer" and select "Manage." Click "Disk Management" under "Storage" on the left pane of the window.
2. Right-click your USB drive on the list of drives and select "Format." Select a name and file system type for your drive.
3. Click "OK" to reformat the drive. Click "Start" and "Computer" to access your drive.

Rate this accordingly.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using Fixya.

I have SanDisk Cruzer micro 8GB and being used for while. Recently I noticed divice cut-off comunication during reading or saving from/to this cruzer. I tested in 2 pc with different operation system...

Most likey yes. If you have been using the thumb drive frequesntly and with large volumes of data or as a live boot USB then yes. As these devices are used they can wear out just like a hard drive. These devices though are not built to handle it as well as a hard drive. You could say they are a lot like VHS and cassette tapes.

When I plug in the flash drive it lights up but doesn't show up as a drive in "my computer". If I start the device manager (which shows the cruzer device as a funtional drive), disable it and...

STEP 1 - Connect the Cruzer to the PC

If you receive a "USB Device Not Recognized" error on the computer, the flash drive is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.

STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager
1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.

2. Click Device Manager on the left pane.

NOTE: The Cruzer might show up under several places under Device Manager such as:
1. Disk Drives
2. DVD/CD-ROM drives
3. Universal Serial Bus controls as USB Mass Storage.

If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers.

STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click on the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.

2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.

If the Windows 98 computer does not have a USB port and you cannot copy the photos onto a floppy disk or burn the photos to a CD then the only option is the following.
Remove the hard disk and connect it to a USB hard drive adapter and then plug this into a USB port of a working computer. This computer will see this as an external storage device, you can then open the various folders and copy your photos to this computer or to a USB flash drive.

How to use flash drive

Cruzer Micro is an USB external memory where you can store files.
It is automatically detected and installed on all Windows OS from Windows 2000 onward, same on Mac OS and recent Linux versions.
All you have to do is plugging the device into USB.
After the flash drive had been automatically installed , it will be displayed under Computer as an external disk.
You can copy and transfer files using Cut, Copy and Paste functions, or Send to function in windows, or the file manager, depending on the OS used.
In Windows, before unplugging the memory from USB , it is better to turn off the computer or use the 'safely remove USB' function located near to the clock, on the lower right hand corner.

I just bought a new computer and I need to transfer files

A SanDisk Cruzer Mini is a memory stick, like a modern floppy disk. Plug it into a USB port (a thin rectangular hole) - it may be at the back of your computer. Your computer should then recognise it and you can copy files onto it.

2gb micro cruzer causing the pc to restart

Do you have another USB device which you can use to check if it will come up with the same problem? There are 3 things which could cause it to freeze and restart. It could be a problem with the software device driver needed to detect the USB micro cruzer, the USB port itself or it's the USB micro cruzer. One good thing worth to try is plugging your USB micro cruzer on another computer to check if the problem will also occur there. If it does, then it's isolated to the USB device. If there's no other computer available, 1) Try to run an anti-virus and anti-spyware scan on your computer, 2) start up your computer on safe mode and try to check if it'll occur there as well. 3) If it doesn't occur under safe mode and your able to access your USB device, try to run an anti-virus and anti-spyware scan on your USB device to check for problems there. 4) If all else fails, then it could be a problem with the USB device. hope this helps.
