Need vista or 7 drivers for an Atheros 802.11g mini pci cardand atm dont wanna spend the money on a new wireless card

Your S2110 uses an Atheros SuperAG Mini PCI wireless card, it's located underneath its keyboard. Assuming this card has worked before, then it'd probably failed. I'd remove it and reseat it first. But you first have to dig the keyboard out and it's a little tricky but someone else had posted the S2110's keyboard replacement procedure on-line and here's the link (you're not replacing the KB but you can follow these steps to get it out of the way):

If you've reseated the Atheros card and it's still doing the same deal, then it's likely bad and you can replace it. You can get the exact model of the Atheros card and see if you can find the exact same one on eBay (that'd be your best bet); or you can get some other card (such as a Dell-branded Intel 2200bg Mini-PCI Wireless Card, drivers can be downloaded directly from Intel's support site) if you have trouble finding an exact Atheros replacement. The cost of such a card should be $10 or less.

Of course, there are other alternatives, too, such as a USB wireless device or a PCMCIA wireless card, which are just plug and play. The problem with such alternatives is that they'll be more cumbersome since they protrude externally and stick out like sore thumbs - which can cause a whole new set of problems.

My preference would be to keep the wireless internal (use the Mini-PCI).

Forget about pci cards. Get external USB wi-fi adapter, it is much cheaper

Depending on the wlan model, you need one of these drivers

Ambit
Atheros
Broadcom
Intel

As this is an older model, the drivers may not be compatible to Vista.
If none of them are working, either try to install Windows 7 (with 7 i had the WLAN already installed with windows on a travelmate 5520) or revert to windows XP, for which one of the drivers I gave you works for sure.

You can try and see if they are compatible with windows 2000, or install Windows XP which is better anyway.

Unfortunately, the Toshiba Satelite A135-S2246 was never designed to run XP, only Vista. Which is why you can't find any drivers for XP. The nearest you can get is to find a laptop running XP SP2 that is using the same LAN (ethernet controller) and WLAN (wireless ethernet controller), and see if they will work.

Here are the drivers I found for XP (please check which one's you are trying to install):

You will need to search for the card that you have.

You can pick third or fourth from top depending on your preference.

Is it getting any better if you move closer to the router?
First try to update the driver and see if it works better, if not than there's not really much you can do with it. You can swich to cat5e cable, that will be more than enough, or if you really need wireles speed than consider changeing the wirelesscacd in your laptop.
I suggest you some atheros chip based card, because their signal strength and sensitivity is very good. First figure out what you have, open up the small backpanel of your laptop, if there's two than it could be the bigger one. The card could be Mini PCI or mini PCI-E wichever is similar to your card is the type that you need.
After that go to ebay and search for "atheros mini pci" or "mini pci-e atheros", see description for compatibility, or ask the seller if you are not certain. Delivery usually takes about up to 5 bisness days.

Just check before ordering if there's a driver or not for your OS, because as you can see they don't have drivers for some older chips if you have a relatively new windows like Vista or if the chipset is new in some cases there's no driver for XP
But for most cards there's a working dirver and it really makes a diference after most cards.

To swich the card:
-Download the driver for the new card.
-Uninstall the current wireless driver in windows and shut down the computer.
-Swich the wireless card for the new one.
-Start the system and install the driver.
-Enjoy your new card.

I am thinking that he just provided a set of drivers for this Laptop...

He simply put it there and said nothing...

u can get it by just googling from net.

but u must be having the driver disk given to u while buying that.
