HP Pavilion zv6000: USB ports are inop. USB port on rear of computer works fine. USB port on left/front will power my flash drive, but the light stays on constantly. The flash drive is does NOT show up in ''My Computer''. USB port on left/rear will power flash drive briefly then light goes out. Flash drive not in ''My Computer''. USB port on right side also powers flash drive briefly and does not show up in ''My Computer''. When plugging in the USB mouse to the right and left/rear USB ports a message is displayed that ''USB Device Not Recognized'' When the mouse is plugged into the left/front port (that powered the flash drive) the computer does not recognize that anything has been plugged in. I have tried uninstalling the USB root hubs, all USB drivers and restarting. Downloaded all drivers from HP and installed. Nothing.

After reading the description, I think you need to try updating BIOS and latest device drivers for USB. Because USB are getting power on that means there would not be any fault to from the motherboard.

So please try updating latest BIOS for your notebook.
If you can provide me the product no for your notebook and the operating system which you are using currently then I can find the one for you.

Otherwise you can also do the same.

Type in the product no. on www.hp.com. Then go to software and driver download page, select the proper OS and search in BIOS ROM pack available for your notebook.

I hope this will help.

I cannot get a SanDisk flashdrive to go into either of the USB ports on my new desktop computer. I am using the USB ports located on top of the computer

To test the functionality of the usb ports in front of the computer
1. Insert another flash drive or another usb device like a usb mouse on front the computer 2. If it detect the usb device that means 2 things flash drive might be bad and the front usb port is working 3. If it does not, It means that the flash drive might be bad or the usb port is not connected to the front panel of the computer 4. Try also inserting the flash drive at the back of the computer see if the usb drive is detected in all ports 5. Check the BIOS for any usb port associativity

HP Pavilion zv6000 won't power up after getting zapped

It sounds like you have a piece of junk, the hard drive mighr be OK , if it is you can put it into a USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

USB drive problem

I had a client with this same issue. However, her issue was that the top left USB port would only accept flash drives. Your external harddrive is probably not getting enough power from your USB port. Try using two USB ports (you can get a connector for this) to power up the external harddrive.

Flash drive not working

An option that you could do is to plug the flash drive in the back of the computer. The reason is because flash drives derive power from the USB port itself unlike other usb devices that you are using may have their own power or because the USB port in front does not give as much power as the one from the back.

Usb ports

  • The driver for the device is faulty. When you plug in a USB device, the computer should load and then configure the device without ever requesting a device driver. If the computer prompts you for a device driver, check the information that came with the device or go to the manufacturer's website to see if a driver is available.
  • The USB port might be defective. If the USB device is connected to a defective port, the device will not work. Try plugging the device into a different port. If all the USB ports are being used, unplug a device that you know works, and then plug the problem device into the port that device was using.
If the device is plugged into a secondary USB hub with other USB devices, unplug the device from the hub, and then plug the device directly into a port on your computer.
  • Other USB devices might be drawing too much power from the hub. The device you are trying to use might require all the available power or bandwidth that your computer can provide. If other USB devices are connected to the computer and are drawing power from it, the first device might not work. If any other devices are drawing power from the hub, try disconnecting them, and then see if your device works. If this solves the problem, you might want to obtain a USB hub with its own power supply so that you have adequate power for all devices.
