SOURCE: Iron spits out rusty water. The iron is a Rowenta
Fill it with a mix of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Let it set for 30 minutes and steam it out for about 2 minutes. Unplug it and dump it. After it cools colpletely, fill it with water and steam it out. The rust is coming from your water supply, not the iron.

These are called tamper proof screws and you have to get them from the manufacturer. You have to be an authorized service center to get them. There were too many law suits aganinst the companies so they placed these special screws on the units so the do-it-yourselfers can not open them. I think they just do not want the units repaired and this is their excuse. They would rather have you toss the unit and buy another one. Sorry I can not be of more help.
SOURCE: MY rowenta Iron wont produce steam. IT heats up
Sounds like the Steam control valve is blocked or not opening. try cleaning the iron with a kit from wallmart or similar store. Failing that :It may be cheaper to buy a new one from wallmart or similar store.

SOURCE: rowenta d1700 red flashes and iron shuts off
I am on my 3rd or 4th Rowenta. I recently bought the Rowenta Effective, Model DX 1700. Once again, I am having the same problem as before, it shuts off after about 30 seconds. From what I am reading, many people are having the same problem. I'm going to have to guess, this is a product defect. Do I contact the company for a refund????
