Probably the transmission internal mode switch . But , without hooking up a scan tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes an checking input data from the switch to the TCM - transmission control module i'd only be guessing . You don't want to waste money just replacing part's . Have a qualified repair shop check it out. Need factory service info an professional type scan tool .

Circuit/System Description
The transmission manual shift shaft switch assembly, also known as the Internal Mode Switch (IMS), is a sliding contact switch attached to the manual shift shaft inside the transmission case. The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch is integrated into the IMS and connects to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) lead-frame through a short wire harness. The 5 inputs to the TCM from the transmission manual shift shaft switch assembly indicate the transmission gear selector lever position. This information is used for engine start enable, engine controls as well as determining the transmission shift patterns. The state of each input is available for display on the scan tool. The five input parameters represented are Signal A, Signal B, Signal C, Signal P (Parity), and Signal N (Park/Neutral Start Signal). Park/Neutral Signal is sent from the Park/Neutral switch directly to the Engine Control Module (ECM) and is used for engine start enable. The Park/Neutral Signal circuit is not connected to the TCM internally. The circuit uses the TCM as a pass-through connector only. The ECM Park/Neutral diagnostic monitors the Park/Neutral signal circuit to detect low voltage when the ECM expects high voltage and high voltage when the ECM expects low voltage.

First of all, boot your system without the monitor connected to it and when you feel that it's booted upto logon screen (or if you haven't assign password it'll directly logon to the desktop, power on the speaker to make sure you can know it's done) connect the monitor. If this isn't successful, please turn off the system and remove the cmos battery, leave it outside for few minutes and again reinstall it. Boot again normally. Still having the same problem? then let's try another method. Did you see the bios loading (black screen with white text during startup) when you power on the system? If so, press F8 several times while it is booting and select "Safe Mode" and restore your system to previous state. Do let me know if this isn't possible. Good luck Thanks for using FixYa.

after switching on the computer press F8 & Choose safe mode to boot the system & Restore the system in previose state & Before doing this make sure u backup the C Drive.

reboot the computer and then press f10 this should get you a screen with a text line that says safe mode,with net or command scroll down to last settings that worked and try that ps. you really need to make a recovery disk. its that important.

You could try going into safe mode and make sure the correct drivers are installed and if they are then you can then set the correct resolution.

I have been having the same problem with my hpvs17 monitor when i start to use my web browser on linux distros. Now, for the next few days i am going to try my system on a regular crt monitor. if the monitor does not crash, than i will have to say that the hpvs17 monitor has a defect.It seems that when i go online, while i am in the middle of searching something, the monitor just shuts off and i get "input signal out of range".

some how your screen resolution has changed above or below what your monitor can display. you need to boot your computer using another monitor that can work with the resolution your computer has switched to(i used a spare crt monitor when it happened to me) change your resolution in display properties to a normal level like 1027x768, and while the computer is on swap the monitor cables to verify the lcd is working.
It is perfectly safe to unplug the video cable and plug it back in while the computer is turnned on.

Some monitors have low resolution, that if it doesn't support that resolution then you'll expect an "input signal out of range" message on screen. try to boot on "safe mode" if it works then you have to lower your screen resolution at "display properties" if not then the monitor has a defective data cable. ;)

The video driver isn't set up correctly for the computer. You need to boot into safe mode - after powering on the computer, press the F8 key. You will be shown a menu. Choose Safe Mode with networking. The computer will boot using a very basic video driver. Right click on the screen and select properties. Click on the advance tab. Click on Driver => Advanced => Update driver. Once the driver has been updated. Go back to the drivers tab and click on mode. Select one of the modes. Close everything and restart your conmputer normally.
