Had the same thing happen to me today and in my case it was a code 18 as they come... It started while I was installing a video card adapter for a dual monitor setup. The solution - I had to simply close the side panel I had left open for testing and then reboot the server. The intrusion alarm went off.
It is a very real possibility as there are no beeps when it is removed, but that does not mean it is faulty, you could be getting POST beeps suggesting there is a fault with the mainboard, have it checked out with a local & reliable engineer who may be able to solve your problem.

its the cover switch. there is a small push switch on the front panel that detects if the front cover has been removed, either the switch is defective, or the cover is not seating properly to close the switch.
If working OK, probably means that the temperature alarm goes off because is getting hot the PC. I suggest to check why is that happening. All fans working OK? is the CMOS temperature alarm set too low? check your motherboard instructions booklet- It will tell you what the beeps mean probably in the last pages.
