Refilling an ink cartridge

Are you using Dell Series 6 ink cartridges?

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Plug everything back in and power on the printer. Now remove the Dell Series 6 Color cartridge. Make sure the tape is off the cartridge and reseat the cartridge. Then close the printer and it will print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Dell Series 6 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is possible the cartridge has a bad sensor. Try taking it back to the place of purchase for a replacement.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

The ink cartridges used in Epson's Stylus line of printers are very similar to the ones used in its other printers. A handful of cartridges--like the S020034, S020047 or S020049--may require a slightly different refilling technique, but they all basically entail opening a fill hole in the top to run down into the ink chamber within. Once the chamber is accessible, you can use a basic refill kit with a syringe bottle to refill the chamber, as with most printer-ink cartridges.

1. Hold the cartridge upside down so the outlet holes to the printer paper are on top. Cover each hole with a piece of tape, then turn the cartridge right-side up.

2. Make a hole in the top of the cartridge above each ink chamber. For most cartridges, simply poke a hole through the label with a toothpick. With cartridges like the Epson Stylus 34 (the casing of which is black), pull back the label to reveal the filling holes and puncture the seal of each home. For the 47 or 49 color cartridge, drill a 1/8-inch hole in the shell between the label and front edge.

3. Determine which color of ink is in which chamber (if you're refilling a color cartridge). The toothpick used to puncture the hole should draw out some ink to show you. If you have a cartridge in which you punctured the label directly, the order of the color chambers is usually cyan, magenta and yellow. If you created the hole in another way (like with the 34, 47 or 49 cartridges), the order is usually magenta, cyan and yellow.

4.Fill the syringe bottle with 5ml of ink. Insert the needle in the filling hole and inject the ink. There may be a sponge inside the chamber, so make sure the needle goes all the way through to the bottom. The 34 cartridge takes up to 12ml of ink.

5. Tape over the fill holes you created. If you drilled the holes, plastic plugs (like the ones included in a refill kit) can work as well. Leave the tape on the outlet holes as you replace the cartridge in the Epson Stylus printer.

Color Cartridge 1. Place the cartridge over somepaper towels in case there are any spills.Remove the label sticker from the topof the color cartridge. 2. Drill into the three small holeson the top of the cartridge to widen them so they will allow syringe needles. 3. Fill a syringe with 6 mL ofmagenta ink. Insert the needle into the refill hole that is located below thetwo protruding rectangles on the top of the cartridge. Slowly inject the ink. 4. Fill a syringe with 6 mL of cyanink. Insert the needle into the refill hole located below the large rectangleon the top of the cartridge. Slowly inject the ink into the cartridge. 5. Fill a syringe with 6 mL of yellowink. Insert the needle into the refill hole located below the small rectangleon the top of the cartridge. Slowly inject the ink into the ink chamber. 6. Replace the cartridge into theMX310 printer. Black Cartridge 1. Set the cartridge on some paper towels. 2. Drill a hole into the dimplelocated directly above the semicircle on the top of the cartridge.Fill asyringe with 20 mL of black ink. Insert the needle into the hole and slowlyinject the ink. 3. Replace the cartridge into theCanon MX310.

Remove the top before refilling.
Otherwise you risk that the colors get mixed.
That happened to me when using holes drilled from the top.

I don't have a Dell but we have Lexmarks which use similar cartridges. I'm guessing your color and black has a flat top. Your printer should be using a 2 cartridge system and most likely w/ 4 colors. Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The Black cartridge is a single color cartridge. The CMY (short for Cyan,Magenta,Yellow) is in another cartridge. If you don't know which one, get a paper tower and dab the bottom of the cartridge near the nozzles which are usual silver in color. If you have the color you now need a very thin needle to fit those very small holes. If your needle wont fit then you will have to enlarge the holes. To refill,you really will enlarge it anyway to inject the syringe needles in. Stick the needle into the hole as deep as you can and stop just before you hit bottom. Just approximate the height of the cartridge to the needle. When you take the needle out, use a paper towel or toilet paper to wipe off the ink. What you wipe off will be the color of that chamber. You just need to do one more on any of the 2 remaining holes. Label as you go so you know what color it is. Don't do mental gymnastics. One mistake means you either print w/wrong colors or buy a new cartridge. I'm not familiar w/ the cartridge so I'm guessing on the color you should put between 1-2ml of ink per color. On the black maybe 5-8ml. This is to be on the safe side. Don't overfill it. There's no guarantee your cartridge will print, cuz manual refills are not as good as those done on a machine. If it works you may be able to refill another 2-3 times. Manual refilling is a gamble. Just ink the ink in very slowly and be patient. take about 15-20 seconds to inject 1 ml. Hope this helps.
