Sounds like you are trying to activate a voice recorder while you are talking on the phone (this would only record one side of the conversation anyway - yours). when the call is active, select option> you will get the option for recording the call conversation. And the call will be saved under voice record folder

Using the OPTIONS menu while in a call, you can go all the way to MY SOUNDS menu. (Normally from there you can choose RECORD NEW) but if you are on a call it says NOT AVAILABLE DURING CALL... so you can't do it using the standard LG setup. Sorry.

The beep is there to let the other party that the conversation is being recorded.

Olympus makes a device that allows you to record telephone conversations without having to hook up anything to the actual telephone. It is called a TP-7. My guess, assuming nobody recorded the conversation, is that the answering machine picked up before the call could be answered. Check your answering machine for the number of rings before it turns on.

Or maybe your answering machine has a memo record on it that is malfunctioning that recorded a memo

This is a phone system phone. If you can record conversations it would be a feature of your voice mail on the system (the phone itself cannot do this). If it all worked, you should have the recording in your voice mail box. It may be in with recorded messages or there could be a separate location. Example: Press 1 to hear your messages, press 2 to hear your recordings, press 3 to change your password, etc...

If you are using a Symbian OS based phone (such as the Nokia 6120 Classic or many others, you could try using software such as Total Recall to record all your mobile phone conversations. Just be sure to set the recording quality to 'low' or both parties may hear beeps wile recording.
