Alesis M1-Active left speaker emitts a very high pitched wine that sounds like feedback

These are fairly new monitors. not long ago the left speaker started emitting a very high-pitched whine that changes pitch/volume when standing in front of it. It sounds very much like feedback but im pretty sure its not. It's just the one speaker and it's not the cord. It happens even when the speaker is unplugged and when connected to different preamps or no preamp. whats happening??

Have your built-in amp checked for trouble. there should be trouble in the output stage feedback loop. this is something to be done by a repair technician

Hi Tom, I have the exact same problem with one of my M1active 620 speakers. Awful high pitched sound when the power cable is plugged in, even if the speaker is off. Did you ever find a solution? It's driving me mad.

Alesis M1 active 620 woofer problem

There clearly is a fault in the sub's amp section. It's probably the main part that does most of the work. It will need to be replaced.

Alesis M1 Active 620 studio monitor cutting out

I see from the manual there are several controls on the speaker that could affect the sound in the way you describe (gain, hi- and mid-boost, acoustic space). Why don't you compare the actions of each control with the working speaker as the standard and a test tone or FM noise as the source? It might help you to identify a specific internal function that has changed. After that, someone's going to have to crack it open and do surgery.

You might also try using the opposite input (TRS vs XLR) than the one you're using. It might reveal something.

Woofer doesn't work

sounds like the voice coil could be open or damaged. the woofer can be reconed. reconing replaces all the moving parts in the speaker frame returning to new condition in most cases.

Alesis M1 Active Mk2 Speaker won't Power Up

Hi, This is usually the Capacitor C8 on the powerboard it usually bulges and pops, its becuase its right next to a resistor which gets very hot and sometimes puts the capacitor into meltdown, yours might have gone past that stage but this is worth a look; http://www.neufeld.newton.ks.us/electronics/?p=232

Hope this helps

Cheers

You need to take a closer look really, see if anything on the power supply board inside has melted, burned, popped, etc.

Speaker will not turn on

Actully the problem is your speaker which is shorted. The speaker assembly or the one who crashed out always, when you excited the volume to max it feedback to amplifier Ic to cut the fuse blown. The amperage goes up and sent to either left or right amplifier power supply.
Even you replace the fuse with a new one it will repeat the situation and story.
later sooner it will damage more.
