The Black prints faint on the left side of the page for our HP2605dn printer.

  • Anonymous Jun 21, 2010

I tried this but it made no difference. The issue is not in the color printing. I had an issue with the red fading out so cleaned the mirror box. The color printing is now good. When I finished cleaning the color bos it printed fine for a week and then the black has faded on the left side. The ink cartridges are all good.

Remove the black cartridge.
shake it firmly.
Replace the cartridge.
If this changes your problem the cartridge is almost empty.

Faded prints are possible due to following reasons.

1. Fogged red mirrors inside the Laser box
2. Alignment of the Laser Box
3. Calibration Problem
4. Cleaning Problem

I will guide you with simple steps first, if this dosen't work working with laser box is little tough & time consuming, hence will describe later.

To Calibrate the colors, Press the 'Green Button' in the front panel, use the arrow keys to navigate through menu.

Select 'System Setting' by pressing the green button again, navigate using the arrow keys and select the 'Calibrate Color', select green button to select and confirm to 'Calibrate Now'. This will take few minutes.

In addition to that, to clean the paper path, select the green button and use the arrow keys and navigate thru' menu and select 'Service'. select using the green button and navigate through menu and select cleaning option. This will take few minutes.

Try printing some documents and check whether you have fixed. If you have not got the original print quality, Let know to guide you more technically.

Then you have to align your laser box. Since you have faded on left side, kindly follow the steps below.

    1. Switch OFF the printer power supply & Remove the screws & back cover.

    2. You can see the laser box behind the PCB layout. In addition to that you will be finding the TEST push button on the rightside PCB.

    3. Switch ON the printer & Load a paper and hold the switch for few seconds, it will print line for you. Take a look at the lines. Is the black are faded as your problem in left.

    4. If so look at the laser box mounting screws at the top of the box. Turn left hand screw from looking at back side, make only small turns.

    5. Try the TEST print again. You may requred to repeat sometime to get the dark lines fully on all colors. If your problem is not fixed in one direction try rotating in oppsite direction. Either one of the side will fix you printing defect.

    6. After you got the right lines, Switch OFF and put covers back.

Black vertical lines on printed pages

check the "photoconductor unit" (pg 37 in the Maintance manual)

ours was doing it with the magenta and saw a faint 'scratch' on the roller. will attempt to replace and report back if this fixes it.
