My mic seems to pick up internal noise even when muted

So this mic pics up noise even when muted, white noise, like a "shhh" sound... even when muted. I've used various programs like Ableton, audacity, and now reaper, and still the same sound. I am using a toshiba netbook

Hi, You can check you the connectios or the mic. remember that the mic is too sensitive, you can adjust it with the nobb on the mic by putting it on o -dB and reduce the highs on your mixer or EQ to reduce hiss sound.

But fisr check the connection properly to see if when muted, is muted properly.

Take care.

Are you using Windows 7? Windows 7 has a bug that increases the noise by +30 dB. You just need to adjust the recording gain back down to 0 dB.

  1. Right-click the speaker near the clock
  2. Click Recording devices
  3. Right-click the USB Audio CODEC device
  4. Click Properties
  5. Go to the Levels tab, there will be a slider that says Microphone.
  6. Right-click on the number.
  7. Select decibels.
  8. Adjust the slider until it reads as close as possible to "0 dB".

My microphone is not working

Hi Ramin

Please check to make sure:
1). The MIC is not Muted
2). The Internal MIC is the default Sound Output device.
3). Update the drivers (even if they are the latest, re-install them)

People can't hear me durring calls. I can hear them.

Three possibilities: you have muted your microphone (sometimes by using an external mic it turns the internal one off), you have turned the mic down to the point where it's so low it isn't picking anything up, or the mic is broken.

Look around under settings and check the mic volume and mute settings. If they are okay then I'd say the mic has gone south.

Acer Aspire internal mic won't work.

You need to check the record settings and make sure the mic is not muted or turned down to low. Click START, CONTROL PANEL, then SOUND icon. Click the AUDIO tab up top. Make sure that your sound card is selected in the drop down menu under Sound Recording. Now click VOLUME tab. A new window will open up. Click OPTIONS then PROPERTIES. Make sure you have a check by the MIC and click OK. In the Recording Control window, turn the level up for Microphone and make sure it is not muted. Let me know what happens.

Audio feedis crossing with my speaker feed with and without the microphone plugged in.

Your mic still picks up sound when it's unplugged ?
As far as the other prob goes that sounds like howl round ( feedback ), mute the mic when not talking through it or get a mic with a cardioid polar response pattern ( just ask for a cardioid mic, can get a hypercardioid or supercardioid too but a cardioid would be best for your application, point the mic right at your speaking position with the back of the mic pointing at the speakers wich ideally should be behind the mic, this will help cancel out their sound, puting a limiter on the mic and setting it where it only starts picking up sound when you talk directly into it will help too, but the sure fire way to solve the prob is to mute the mic when not speaking into it. What you definitely don't want is an omnidirectional mic, for what you are using a mic for.

New laptop

I had this problem too. My built in mic wasnt working, but i went to the list of programs (Classic view of the start menu) and under the program folder TOSHIBA > Speech System it'll have a choice "Configure Microphone." After I went through that, it worked fine. Make sure you restart your webcam software though after you've done that if you had it open like me. Hope this works!
