LiteOn-SHW-1635S Hello all, I have a LiteOn SHW-1635S IDE DVD/CD burner running on Microsoft XP Media Center OS with firmware version YS0Z Driver version 5.12535.0 The Hardware is Gateway GT 5058 approx 2 yrs old For some reason, this drive will not recongnize ANY rd-r media of any kind or manufacturer. Moreover, it does not matter what kind of software I use to attempt to burn cd-r media. Now the funny thing is, I am able to burn DVD media. I am at the point of buying a new drive and using this one for back-up on DVD somewhere else. My gut tells me that the problem may be a simple one as the DVD side of the burner works, is it possible that the cd-r side of the drive is shot? The firmware has been updated to YS0Z, however I did not keep a record of what is was. I have been patiently been working on this for months now to no avail. Any assistance or expertise you have on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    i have the same problem, though mine can't burn a dvd-r or even a cd-r. it also can't read or recognize any type of disk, except a dvd disk!

    My LiteOn SHW-1635S drive also stopped recognizing any and all CD's. It still seems able to play a DVD. I haven't tried burning anything. Actually, I was burning a CD when the process froze. After I aborted the burn process, the drive was unable to read any CD's. Is it possible there are separate CD and DVD driver files and the CD driver file has become corrupt but the DVD driver remains intact? Windows XP says the driver files are loaded, but it could just be finding the DVD driver and doesn't look for a separate CD driver file (???)

Right click on my computer icon on desk top or, click on start (bottom left of task bar) right click on my computer and click on explore, locate drive letter for lite on drive ( it is F on my computer)
right click on icon representing lite on drive and click on properties, then click on recording tab,
click in box that says enable cd recording on this drive (there should now be a check mark in the box) and then click on apply and that fixed it for me.

if you physically unplug your cd/dvd restart your computer then reconnect it this should activate the found new hardware wizard or it might have a dirty lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner read the instructions before applying put 2 or 3 drops on a cd/dvd then run the cd/dvd player

I intalled model iHAS324-32 Y to replace iHDS 11807-4 and vista wont run with it. Tells me to uninstall it and contact manufacturer. I uninstalled it and system works fine again without the disc drive.
Is your vista a 64 bit OS? If so this dvd-writer is compatible with 32 bit OS. You may need to upgrade the firmware for it. Maybe this link can help LiteOn firmware search.
I've upgraded firmware for a dvd writer already with no bad consequences but I have crashed one of my motherboards trying to do the same. So if you're not comfortable doing it, get the people you bought it from or some techie to do it for you. Hope this helps

You just answered your question......."all drivers I assume present and ok" update your drivers..how old are the drivers for WIN98? how old are the drivers for XP. These are relevant to having the correct drivers for the correct operating system. The benefit for you is that you are running to operating systems seperately on two drives or am I mistaken. They need an update on the drivers for each OS and not a firmware update one is hardware the other is software? Your problem is the software.
