A few months after my TV was set-up, I cleaned the screen when it appeared to be dusty. However, there seem to be 2 permanent black marks that will not clear.
One or 2 people I know tell me that you should not use Windex on flat screens. I did so initially, not knowing you shouldn't use it and am unable to find at supermarket or dry goods stores any cloth or material that should be used for this purpose.
Is there any way to remove these marks, or must I just put up with them until the TV wears out?

Turn off the closed captioning feature. If a channel or program doesn't provide the captioning, all you get is the black box. Just find the menu page for that and change the setup.

Hi, I just fixed one I bought on eBay with the same problem. My problem was caused by the screen backlight inverter. Fortunately I had one from another TV I bought last year on eBay. The repair only took about 15 minutes. Your best bet is to contact Funai Corp. and really complain even if it is out of warranty. They make Emerson, Funai, Symphonic and Sylvania and all the parts inside are the same (from the same years). If that don't work look on eBay for one with a broken screen or some other damage, call your local dealer and see if they have the inverter from a broken TV or ask around. We have a freecycle group in Michigan that recycles things rather than throw them in landfills you may have one in your state too !

try this option , open the unit , look on the PC board , try to locate an inverter transformer ( its square with ferrite coil ) look on the back for a DRY SOLDER around that area , if not then try the POWER SUPPLY also , hope this helps

This is an EDTV capable of 1080i over component cables. It will also display 480p & 720p. Most likely its the video source determing the resolution you are seeing.

Hi, hit the cc button on your remote control untill the close caption display says off, this should eliminate the box from your screen
