WINTV I have installed my software and when i try and acces it comes up with WinTV initialization error! A required component (hcwTVWnd.dll) is missing. please can you help me! im not sure if that is my product it just says wintv 2000

Error: Win/TV Initialization error, a required component (Hcwtvwnd.dll) is missing:

Fix: that error indicates a mix match in the driver files. The latest wintv driver and application for nt must be installed. Found here

    A WinTV channel does not necessarily indicate a Tuner channel. You can,
    with WinTV, set up a series of channels that include Tuner inputs,
    Composite Video inputs, and S-Video inputs. For example, a group of
    channels may include channels 2 through 13 as tuner inputs, then
    channel 100 as a composite video input, and channel 200 as an S-video
    input.

This error message indicates that the WinTV middleware/channel manager is missing.

  • Reinstall the HcwChanDB.exe (located in the PVR folder) from your WinTV CD ROM.

    This error will only come up if the VFW drivers have been installed on the system. For example, if you had a different model WinTV installed that requires VFW drivers and installed the PVR 250/350 software over it, you may get this error. You may also get this error if you have downloaded and installed the PVR PCI updated drivers mistakenly.
    The WinTV PVR 250/350 DOES NOT USE VFW drivers. To correct this error, run the PVR48xxx.exe file from the PVR folder on the WinTV PVR 250/350 installation CD.

    Error Code 10: This device cannot start.

    Try moving the WinTV card to a different PCI slot in the system. If
    there are any resource issues with the WinTV card and any other device
    in the system, this would reassign the resources for the WinTV.

    Open
    the Control Panel - System - Advanced. In the Performance section click
    on the Settings button, then the Advanced tab. In the Memory Usage
    section located here, choose Programs instead of System Cache.

    Make sure that the latest drivers for your VGA card are installed as well.

How can I record TV on my laptop?
Step 1:
b> While TiVo and other devices allow users to record and play back their favorite TV shows and movies whenever they want, those who watch television on their laptops have been forced to rely upon a number of different Internet websites that host movies and television shows. Fortunately, hardware and software now exists that allows laptop users to record TV shows directly onto their laptops and replay them whenever they like. All they need is an open USB port.

Connect the USB TV tuner to the laptop using a free USB port. Connect the cable wire to the USB tuner's cable input. Insert the TV tuner's installation disk into the laptop and follow the on screen directions to install the appropriate drivers and software. When prompted by Windows, select "install software automatically" to install the device drives. When prompted by the WinTV software to choose which programs to install, ensure that the option for the WinTV scheduler is checked. Launch the WinTV 2000 software now installed on the laptop. Press the "scan" button to load all of the available television channels. The channels that the tuner is able to locate will be displayed in the bottom half of the screen. Press "close" when the scan is complete. The amount of time to complete this step will vary depending on the number of channels being added. Choose a channel to record using the channel selection buttons on the left hand side of the on screen menu now displayed. Press the "record" button located on the bottom of the screen to record the program current displayed on the screen. Alternatively, recording can be scheduled using the WinTV Scheduler software included in the WinTV installation package. From the WinTV Scheduler main window, press "add program". Next, enter the time and date in addition to the channel to be recorded. Finally, click "save program". While recording TV on the laptop is not nearly as straightforward as it is with Tivo and other similar devices, the above methods are both reliable and relatively intuitive.

Xp media center says no ntsc tuner installed
Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.

HP only supports XP if using vista
so does Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-pci don't support vista

yes if do a restore

it will wipe all your files and data off the disk an be gone forever

please back up your data before you do a restore

try alternative software like beyond tv or sage tv.im using beyond tv on mine but i think sage tv works to capture from connections like vcr

OK Guys - i fixed it. it s a known problem:
------------------------- Absturz von WinTV in Modul ntdll.dll im Sat-Suchlauf Laden Sie ntfix2.exe herunter, führen Sie diese aus und gehen Sie nach folgender Anleitung vor:
Stellen Sie sicher, dass WinTV beendet ist.
Stellen Sie sicher dass der EPG-Dienst beendet ist, falls Sie diesen installiert haben
(rechts unten in der Startleiste, klicken Sie mit der rechten Maustaste auf das blaue Symbol und auf "Exit").

Führen Sie die Datei ntfix.cmd aus.
Die Dateien werden nach C:\Hauppauge\ntfix entpackt.
Falls gemeldet wird, dass 0 Dateien kopiert wurden, starten Sie Ihr Betriebssystem im Abgesicherten Modus (F8 vor dem Start drücken) und führen Sie die Datei ntfix.cmd erneut aus.
Alternativ können Sie die aktualisierte Transponderliste satellites.exe herunterladen, und diese exe-Datei ausführen, um das Problem zu beheben.

Wintv 2000
From the Hauppauge website:

Error Messages when attempting to run WinTV32 or WinTV2000: Error messages such as: "Error. Cannot locate capture filter", "Cannot build filtergraph", "Error connecting Vcap and HCWCap filters", "Error connecting preview pin" can be caused by bad driver installations. Run the latest driver on the Hauppauge WinTV-USB technical support page to fix this. This new driver runs HCWCLEAR first, and then automatically reinstalls the driver.
Aternatively you may receive an 'Initialization error HTV=## '. Please look in the Device manager to see if the Hauppauge WinTV USB is listed correctly in the Device Manager. If it is not listed properly or if it has a Yellow mark on it, the drivers should be reinstalled.
Also, look under Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device Manager and be sure that the "Universal serial bus controller" is listed correctly(not disabled) as well as the USB root hub. If disabled, re-enable, and reboot.
