Moving the iTunes Music Files to a Different Hard Disk/Folder If you are low on disk space in your iTunes folder then you can move these music files to another hard drive and keep your music library in tact without the need to create your music library again. If you want to transfer your iTunes to an external USB hard drive, make sure that it is powered up and connected to your computer before opening iTunes. Opened iTunes, click Edit and then Preferences. Click the Advanced tab. Make sure the Keep iTunes Media folder organized checkbox is checked, and click Change. Then select the location where you would like to move your files to. Click Select the Hard Drive and Folder or OK once you?re done. The files will not move into their new positions by themselves ?To do this ? click File, Library and Organize Library. Check Consolidate Files. When this process has been completed, go to the new location of your iTunes media and check the music files to see if they have migrated across correctly. Also play one or more tunes to test the music files. The redundant iTunes music files can now be deleted from the original iTune location (C:\Documents and Settings\?..?\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). Delete everything from iTunes there except files titled iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml. These are still needed.

when you add music to your itunes library, it copies them to the itunes music folder for itunes to manage it or itunes has every song twice in its library, to check whether itunes has not copied your music twice, view your music in LIST VIEW in itunes and if you see some songs has been copied twice delete on of them.
You can also delete the songs on your music folder to save disk space or you can leave them if you use another music player other than itunes.
But I think you should delete the files in your music folder.

Open iTune

confirm that your iPod is configured to enable disk use. Essentially this means that your new computer will recognize your iPod as a USB device device or a external drive.

Determine Storage Capacity
Step1
Make sure there's enough space on your iPod to hold the iTunes music files. In essence, you will be using your iPod as an external storage drive to bring your iTunes library to the new computer. Without a large enough storage capacity, this can't be completed.

Determine how much space is available by opening iTunes on your old computer and checking the size of the library. Click on "Music" and make note of the amount of space your library takes up. Then connect your iPod, click on it in iTunes and note the amount of free space indicated at the bottom of the pane.

Note: While you can use the Transfer Purchase From iPod option under the File menu to copy iTunes Store purchases from the iPod to another computer you can't transfer songs from other sources from the iPod library to iTunes

So you'll need to follow the steps below to use iPod as a hard disk to transfer music files from one computer to another. This process will require the use of iTunes 7 on all computers. Any computers running iTunes 6 or earlier will need to be updated to follow these steps.

Once you have the files transferred, you'll need to authorize any iTunes Store content. If you won't be using your old computer, you'll want to deauthorize it.

Important: Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats), so you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod to move your music to a Windows PC.
Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use The first thing you need to do is make sure have configured your iPod to enable disk use. To do this:

1. Open iTunes on your old computer.

• Disconnect the iPod from the computer when the "Do not disconnect" message no longer appears on the iPod screen.

Now:
