Interesting question. now, if only we could also know what pump does not pump, what fluid you are refilling, a good answer would be able to be provided.

How do you change power steering fluid on 1994 toyota pickup DLX with 4 cyl. engine

Should have done it when you had everything unhooked.

Rather than disconnect the hoses I use the trigger unit from a plastic spray bottle to pump the fluid out of the PS reservoir. Just unscrew the spray tip on the trigger unit, drop the tube section into the PS reservoir and pump out the old fluid into a container using the trigger. (If the plastic tube has a tiny filter on the end just cut it off before you insert it.) Then refill the reservoir and take the car for a short drive to circulate the new fluid. Then do it again. Empty and refill.

In a few days or a week, repeat the process (2 more empty and refills)and you will end up with nice new fluid in the system. If you like do it a 5th time in a week or so (1 more empty and fill) but at that stage you should find you are pumping pretty clean fluid out.

Not the most efficient system but it is very easy to do, takes little time and you do not need to go disconnecting pump lines which I would rather no do..
I do it this way on all my own cars every few years because it is easy, clean and works well and keeping the fluid clean and fresh means less wear on the pump due to contaminants and fluid deterioration.

If you get air in the system because you run the fluid level below where the lines fit to the reservoir don't worry. The air will be removed when you drive the car and turn the steering wheel back and forth. I don't run the fluid below the line connection when I remove old fluid from the reservoir.

How do I drain power steering fluid out of my 07 chevy uplander & replace with new?

There is no easy way to drain fluid out. It is easiest to suction out the fluid from the reservoir on the top of the engine, then refill it with clean fluid. Run the car, bleed the system, and repeat a few times.

Otherwise, you would have to remove the lines on the pump and the rack and pinion to drain it, then refill it through the reservoir, however the lack of fluid in the system when you try to bleed it the first time can damage the pump and rack.

Do you refill resivor after you pump pedal each time to bleed a manual clutch

I would hope not: That would imply that you're pushing through the entire reservoir each pump. If you are, check for leaks. However, about every 5 pumps would be a good time to refill during a bleedoff.

If you pump the clutch lever it will engage the clutch. when you pull in the lever without doing this it will not engage. How do i fix this problem?

Take cover off the clutch reservoir and check the fluid level. Fill it if necessary. Look for leaks between the clutch lever/reservoir, down the hose to the clutch slave cylinder. If no leaks visible, slowly squeeze clutch lever and release, watching for air or fluid pumping in the reservoir. Repeat until clutch has a solid pull. If the pull doesn't improve and stay good, you'll need to bleed the hose and slave cylinder. Locate the bleed valve at the clutch, squeeze the lever till it's a good solid pull, hold it in, and open the bleed valve. Watch for air bubbles. After doing this several times, you should get nothing but fluid. Refill the reservoir and close it. Good riding

Was driving down the road last week and the car reeved the motor up and then would not go forward anymore, but after it cools down for a while it will move so far and then quit again.

No movement in any gear: pump failure, or total loss of fluid. R&R, or refill pan and find the leak. If out of fluid, avoid running the engine until the trans is refilled to avoid pump damage. To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is faulty.

The other issues also would be a bad boost valve and will need to be replaced. Inspect your transmission fluid and see what condition it's in and if you have a front pump issue.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck.

Got a 2003 silverado with 4.8 4x4 wont go foward or reverse motor will rev up but not move

Your transfer case my be in neutral, or your going to have Transmission issues.
Loud bang, grinding sound, loss of all gears, and a binding driveshaft: snapped output shaft. Try to wiggle driveshaft - if more than 0.020" play, that's the sign. R&R.
If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is broken.

Want to change power steering pump

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the hoses at the pump and tape or plug the openings shut to prevent contamination or excessive fluid loss. Position the disconnected lines in a raised position to help prevent leakage.
  2. Remove the pump belt.
  3. Loosen the retaining bolts and any braces, then remove the pump assembly.

To install:
  1. Install the pump on the engine with the retaining bolts hand-tight.
  2. Remove the plugs or tape, then connect and tighten the hose fittings.
  3. Refill the pump with fluid and pre-bleed by turning the pulley counterclockwise (viewed from the front). Stop the bleeding when air bubbles no longer appear.
  4. Install the pump belt on the pulley, then properly adjust the belt tension and tighten the retaining bolts. Refer to of this guide for details on belt adjustment.
  5. Check for proper operation, then recheck fluid level and bleed the system, as necessary.

SYSTEM BLEEDING

  1. Fill the fluid reservoir with fresh fluid.
  2. Let the fluid stand undisturbed for two minutes, then crank the engine for about two seconds. Refill reservoir is necessary.
  3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 above until the fluid level remains constant after cranking the engine.
  4. Raise the front of the car until the wheels are off the ground, then start and run the engine. Increase the engine speed to about 1,500 rpm.
  5. Turn the wheels to the left and right without hitting or only lightly contacting the wheel stops. Check the fluid level and refill, as necessary. If the oil is extremely foamy, allow the car to stand a few minutes with the engine off, then repeat the procedure.
