Turntable works, lights work, but the heating element doesn't

I purchased this microwave based on the fact that we knew the Magic Chef brand from previous positive experiences with Magic Chef!! However, this product has left a very negative impression with me..we purchased this product the first week of February from our local Home Depot, even paid for an extended warranty, replacement for free from Home Depot, however, our paperwork was never filed with Home Depot.

I have not been able to use this microwave since the second week of March, which means, I barely was able to enjoy the benefits of a microwave at all..

Home Depot is not helping at all so maybe you as the manufacturer of this product can help us straighten out this problem..

SOURCE: Microwave won't Work

sounds like a fuse for starters, remove outer cover there will be a white cartridge appx 1"longX1/8"dia this is a ceramic fuse avail at most hardware stores in 15 or 20 amp configurations, if this blows again after repl suspect a faulty H.V. Diode/H.V. Capacitor, or the magnetron tube unless while inside unit you see something obviously wrong 2 fuses are under $5.00

SOURCE: I purchased a Magic Chef under cabinet microwave

Since it's a clearance item, it may not have a warranty.

But you should check with Home Depot on that if you haven't already.

Otherwise, you'd have to have it repaired yourself.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: My magic chef microwave model

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The door switch is bad and needs replacement, as it is bad so the control senses that the door is not closed so won't heat. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

My microwave doesn’t stop heating after the timer goes off. It’s a Magic Chef MODEL NO. MCD1611ST

Sounds like you have a door switch that is sticking. The part for this is #DE96-00414A. Microwaves should always be worked on by a professional for safety.

Magic chef microwave

There's a fuse that has blown. look for it near the bulb socket or on the main board inside the unit.

Magic chef microwave runs backwards with door closed and no time set - works normally when time is set and door is closed - any ideas?

Probably a bad door switch or door switch mount. See help file here.

It's normal for a microwave turntable to run either direction at random. That's common in such AC motors.

The problem is in the magnetron the heart of the system, or the inverter board, if microwave oven is 7 years old or less.

Turntable

The turntable motor is defective, since it is 6 months old your warranty should cover the repair or replacement of the microwave oven.

Microwave not heating up food

This model is a lower-end type that probably didn't cost very much. Since it's over 2 years old, you have no warranty left. Most appliance repair shops charge extra $$ for servicing installed items in the home. You'd probably be better off purchasing a new comparable model. The labor fee alone might equal what you paid for it.
