Goes from record mode to standby automatically

Camera will be in record mode with REC seen in the pull-out screen. Without touching any buttons, camera will switch into "standby". If you press record button, it will go back to recording and then five minutes later will switch back into standby. Also normally in the screen when in record mode it says REC in red letters or STNBY in green letters when it's in Standby mode. Lately it's been switching from REC to just a red dot and switch to a green dot for STNBY. Is my camera possessed?

Wow my friend do you need Ghost Busters? er no this is mostly a case of the main switch being on lock, or the main IC going down on the panel in the cameras brain area, check the locks first, if it is the chip you will need to call your Sony repair man (He will love you) with summer coming he will be able to go on longer holiday, because that wont be a cheap mend sadly.
Number for help then is 01256 828828, now what you will do for cash for your holiday I simply do not know.
Take care, hope it gets sorted out okay?

How do I get to the video mode to record?

I'm guessing its an Exilim EX-Z75

To record movies:
In REC mode, press the <BS> button (bottom right on back of camera)
Use the directions navigators to select the little camera icon on the menu. Press enter to select.
Press shutter button to start recording (A little REC symbol should come up in the monitor)
Press shutter again to stop recording when finished.
Give it a couple of seconds to recover between recordings (i.e. write the files).

Here's the manual - Page 82.

Hi can i record on my pioneer pdr 609 cd without using the remote control,as ive purchased a unit with out one and cant get it to record, thanks

Hi John
You should be able to record without the remote control; make sure you have a blank disc in place, then press the 'RECORD' button on the front; it should go into recording standby mode. When you want to start recording, press the button below the REC BALANCE buttons (the play/pause button, marked with a triangle and a II symbol) and this should get you going.
Try it and get back to me if not.
Hope it works!

Video function

An easier way to do this is to just press the right-hand button on the round wheel surrounding the set button. This allows you to scroll through all the various record modes: Snapshot, Bestshot, Video, & Microphone.

Recording

The EDSR1600 will not go into manual recording mode (by pressing the REC button on the front panel) unless all of the automatic modes are disabled and the hard drive bays are firmly pressed in and locked. Press the MENU button, select ALARM and turn everything in the OPeration column to OFF. Return to the MENU, select MOTION and also turn set all the OPerations to OFF. Return again to the main MENU and under RECORD, set ALARM RECORD OPERATION to OFF, PRE-ALARM RECORD OPERATION to OFF, and PERMANENT RECORD OPERATION to OFF. Note: Turn the JOG wheel clockwise or counter-clockwise to select an option. Press the ENTER button to confirm the option and move to the next field. Press the MENU button to enter, or return to the main MENU. Press the MENU button twice to exit the main MENU. To check if the round key locks on the front of the Hard Drive bay trays are locked, turn OFF the EDSR1600. Open (pull down) the left side front cover and gently pull up on the drive bay handles. If locked, the handles should not lift and the bays should not slide out. After your check, press the bays in firmly to ensure good seating of the Hard Drives. The ESDR1600 should now go into manual RECord if the DVR is working properly. The red REC LED should also light each time a recording is being made. If the REC LED flashes, this means the DVR is recording a field or frame of video.
