Hello Ellen, welcome to fixya. I would begin by removing the rear panel and checking the belt and insure the basket pulley isn't loose as well. If the belt is in tack ( not broke ) but has come off that sometimes is caused by a loose or bent pulley, hence the suggestion to check the pulley. If the belt is broke, it may simply be a matter of normal "wear & tear" and just time to replace it. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. Rinse light flashes on miele w828
1) the water must be preheated, test the heating element if is defective
2)drain line is clogged proceed to fix it see the diagram
3)some sock must be removed, use plier
4)pump defective, inside with the propeler, replace
5)frozen pulley pump, replace
6)improve the drain, if about 4 inches cut of the diference.
b) if lower , install air/gap siphon break assembly.

Loud banging
Several possibilities for noise. check concrete balance wieghts at top and bottom of washer, make sure they are not loose.
Check drum restraint spring(s) are not broken.
Check suspension legs for wear.
Check for loose motor fixings.
Finally, remove drum belt, and spin drum by hand, tjhere should be noise from bearings, if it feels rough or is rumbling , then main bearings have failed.

Drum will not move
Try to remove drum belt, and then turn drum by hand, if it does not turn , then you have either siezed drum bearigs, or some thing jammed between the inner and outer drum
If drum turns freely, then check motor to see if it is free to turn.
