My Sony HDR-HC1 has same lcd problem . It only works when flipped over and against the body. In normal position buttons don't work. Have I deactivated it somehow, or is there a fault?

SOURCE: HDR-HC1 power keeps cycling

I had this exact problem, and the cycling would stop after about 30 sec. and then function properly. I believe a circuit was confused, mainly because I used an older battery and let it run out till the batt was dead - accidently - and when I put in a fresh batt, it no longer cycled and works perfectly to this day.

Now if I can get my computer to recognize the camera via firewire, I'd be golden.

HDR-HC1 flashes when recording outside only but not when recording inside. the LCD screen blinks light & dark. thanks john

This is a fault in the electronic aperture control and will probably cost you $800 if you have it repaired by Sony. However, There are many qualified independent repair shops that will do the repair at a discounted price.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have it repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Lcd screen only works when flipped over and against the camera

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Touch panel menu unaccessible

Me too! The camera was working perfectly until yesterday and when I turned it on today, it selectively ignores some buttons on the screen - and pressing the "Menu" gives me nothing. I've tried to reset it through that pin hole button, but it just resets the machine back to its default.
