Tipically, a hot air furnce has exhaust and a cold air intake. My question is, why is one of them hooked to condensation pump that pumps water out?

Hello
In a forced hot air system you have a supply and a return.

Now with central air cond, you also have the same supply and return exept you also have an air conditioning coil that the return air goes through to be cooled, then it is blown out through the supply side to the vents in the home.

Since warm air or summer air contians water or humidity the cooling coil collects the moisture and sends it to a pan which when fills up is pumped out by a condensation pump.

Error Code P0410

<span>Here's the story on the P0410:<br /> <br /> The AIR pump adds air to the exhaust stream to lower emissions. Why is water accumulating at the base of a newly installed furnace?

Air contains water molecules. Cold air has a lot more than hot air does. When you heated all that cold air the moisture was squeezed out in much the same way water accumulates on the window glass when hot air interfaces with cold.

the drain pump does not effect the hot water intake that is or has to do with the water inlet valve , the coil may be bad or clogged try switch the hot and cold hoses and see what happens

some pumps do have an electrical connection? be sure to check for loose connection
other wise test with a meter

I have a 2000 Buick LaSabre that code P0410 that keeps coming on . Where is the problem? I just replaced the intake and plemum (sp) gaskets. It comes up as the secondary air injection...

Hi, the P0410 code refers to the emissions system. The AIR pump puts air to the exhaust to lower emissions. It takes in outside air and pumps it through two one-way check valves into each bank of the exhaust.
Whenever the code is set, the one-way check valves have worn out or failed and allow water (which occurs naturally in the exhaust) back into the pump. In any cold climate, especially in climates with higher humidity, this water may be more excessive. The water partially fills the AIR pump, it can then freeze. When the PCM commands the pump on, if the pump is frozen it cannot turn, thus overloading the circuit and "popping" the fuse.
If you simply replace the AIR pump the problem may return again (and again). If you replace the pump, also clean out the hoses and replace the one-way check valve.

We have a 2001 Jimmy GMC. Is there a way to see if the air pump is bad? Keep getting 410 code. It won't pass emissions?

P0410 is a fault of the A.I.R. pump and nothing else. AIR pump adds air to the exhaust stream to lower emissions. It does this by taking in outside air and pumping it through two one-way check valves into each bank of the exhaust. About 90% of the time that this code is set, the one-way check valves have worn out or failed and allow water (which occurs naturally in the exhaust) back into the pump. In any cold climate, especially in the northeast with higher humidity, this water may be more excessive. The waterpartially fills the AIR pump, it can then freeze. When the PCM commands the pump on, if the pump isfrozen it cannot turn, thus overloading the circuit and "popping" the fuse. As far as the location of the fuse, it is in the right front fender well beside the battery, and in front of the horn thereSometimes replacing the fuse will fix all your problems and you are all set until next winter when it all happens again. GM says that when this system failure occurs due to water intrusion, the pump MUST be replaced. I have had decent luck just blowing the pump out with direct power provided by a test bettery out of the vehicle, and saving some money. Also, sometimes water is allowed to enter the pump through the intake side of the system (just a 5/8" hose behind the fan shroud) and ruins the system that way. GM has also released a remote air intake kit that includes a longer 5/8" hose, a control solenoid, and a one-way check valve to eliminate most possibility of water intrusion. Good luck and hope this helps, Keep me posted and be glad to help.
