I had the same problem with my 1997 F250. While taking the panel off I did much cursing at engineers for attaching the panels with those ridiculous clips instead of simply using screws. Once inside, simply spraying some WD40 on the handle mechanisms solved the problem and the door handle works like new now. After doing this, I see that it is probably not necessary to take the panel off. Just stick the WD40 straw back behind the dust cover where the door handle comes through and spray it around. I am guessing that would work while saving a lot of cursing.
