I have a Galaxy 721.65022400 microwave oven. It is currently working fine but I have heard of numerous cases of microwaves causing fires. Do you know of any such reports or recalls involving this particular model? Mike Stephens

That one is made by LG for Whirlpool and rebranded Galaxy to be sold by Sears as a Kenmore.

(Confused yet?)

The majority of shorting keypads I've heard have been in Samsungs and Samsung-made ovens, especially GEs.

You can find recall information at each manufacturer's Web site, or visit recalls.gov.

DANGER WARNING! Potential Hazard if your microwave was working and now doesn't...

If you have this model microwave and it was working fine, then one day it stopped heating items placed inside there are a handful of different issues that could be the problem. In my case it was intermittent, over a period of a few days it would sometimes work (heat) and sometimes not. NO MATTER if this is what your's is doing or if it stopped heating all together. If you decide to let it dry out, or not use it for a while to see if it was a one time occurrence, or whatever the reason, the first time you put something in and probably for the next 10 times at least (this assumes it starts to work again), make sure you are right there with it while it is cooking. Don't assume you can put something in, go do something and come back when the timer is beeping. There is a chance (as this happened to me) that your food inside will CATCH FIRE! Normal food item placed inside, no metal, nothing different than the numerous times before when this had been cooked but when we smelled smoke we came running. Fortunately it started and finished inside the microwave but that's not a guarantee, it could spread. Play it safe. Never had a problem like this before and never heard of a microwave cooking something until it caught on fire (especially since the time entered for the cook was 30 seconds) but it did.

My oven suddenly stopped working

Most microwave ovens have up to 4 micro switches in the door latch, it's a safety interlock. These can go bad, and cause the oven to not function.
Micro switches are pretty inexpensive, and can be replaced. You need to open the oven, and then identify exactly which micro switches you need. Both my current microwave ovens have done this, and I've replaced the bad switches. They work fine now.

Had a power surge, microwave started to smoke. Reset power in the house and microwave works fine. 1) Is there anything I should be concerned about? 2) If I continue to use it, can it catch on fire?

Microwave ovens have a lot of safety devices built in. Not sure why or where it was smoking from but without removing the cabinet and having a visual look for something burnt, it would be impossible to say. If the machine is now working OK, ??? who knows. All I can say is that for the next few future uses of the machine, I wouldn't leave it unattended in case there is something that has failed. Chances of fire in a microwave is possible but this is usually something that you are cooking that catches fire, not the machine itself. I have seen the mica cover plate burn in the cooking compartment. It may be that ? Its a small squarish plate that is usually on the side of the oven compartment. It stops food etc and splatters from going into whats known as the waveguide tunnel (The part where the microwaves come out) On some machines, this cover may be plastic. Have a close look inside the oven compartment for a cover that has burn marks or discoloration.

While baking a sweet potato, the potato exploded and caught on fire. The microwave no longer works.a fire bro

I haven't heard of such a thing. You must have cooked it until there was no moisture left in the potato. That would also account for the failure of the oven. It would be the same as no load in the oven.
A thermal protect part is your current problem.

I have a samsung microwave 12v de7711n it works for about 12 seconds then stops and comes up with error lo but i have had new battery on and i have had them tested they is more then 11.5v in the battery...

The battery will test fine when no load is applied, microwave ovens use a lot of current when running and voltage will drop if battery can not deliver the constant current causing the microwave to shut down. The new battery will need sufficient time to charge before use and must be heavy grade. If all checks out a professional is needed to check the oven out.

Lost heat on microwave ,everything else works fine simple fix?

Inexpensive fix yes, but quite dangerous as you have to either replace the High voltage Diode or the magnetron depending on what has gone. Most often it is the Diode as that is fed a few thousand volts and anomolies such as a surge in current cause it to blow(popping sound) You can also check the fuses and if lucky it is just a fuse, but a fuse very seldomly just blows as it points to an underlying fault such as magnetron , capacitor or Diode. Have a service man attend to it unless you know what you are doing as you are dealing with lethal voltages and current even after the microwave has been switched off.
