1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

If that doesn't work then that means either the power supply is bad or the mainboard is bad.

My ps3 starts as nprmal but after 2 or 3 minutes the red light flashes and it shuts down but will restart straight away but shuys down again

Sounds like an overheating problem. Keep it away from dust and try to clean the fan out. Happened to me a couple of times till I took care of the fan

Game stopped playing and red light flashed without me making it.

Hello.

This flashing red light is due to your PS3 overheating. Let it cool for approximately 6 hours before turning it on.

If this happens constantly, then you need to make sure that the PS3 is not in an enclosed space (e.g. cupboards). The vents at the back and right sides of the PS3 must be 6 inches away from walls.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't work, let us know.

I push power and it shuts off right away... then i unplug power and the red light comes on ....still i press it and it goes off again

Hi russell,

The PS3 red light is a huge problem and it is caused by the GPU and the CPU overheating, all you need to do is stop the heat build up.

You have 2 ways of doing this:

You can send it in however bear in mind that for the fix you will have to wait for 4 weeks and also pay out $150 as well.

Or you can use a good PS3 Repair guide to fix the problem.

Make sure you check out these reviews of the top PS3 Repair guides first!

Cheers!

When i turn my ps3 on everything works but in 2-5 minutes it will beep ,the screen will turn off and the blue light turns red and blinks for a while..what do i do?

If the system turns on but then turns itself off, beeps at you and flashes it's lights at you then you have over heated the system. The GPU chip has probly pulled itself away from the board. This will require you to diassemble the PS3...

PlayStation 3 red light problem, but in most cases it comes down to the system overheating. The more it overheats the more damage is created internally to the motherboard and other functioning components...

Playstation 3 turns on than turns off with flashing red light

If it turns off randomly and blinks red and beeps, then it's an overheating problem.

If it turns off as soon as you turn it on and blinks red and beeps, then it's an overheating problem that is getting close to being a YloD.

If there is a yellow light mixed in with #2, then you have the Yellow Light of Death which kills your console. If this happens, repost on here saying you have the YLoD.

If the problem is #1 or 2, then leave the Ps3 off for a day and move it away from carpet and anything that makes heat. Also make sure it is atleast 4 inches away from EVERYTHING.

When i turn it on it gose off straight away an a orange light comes on the the red light just keeps flashing

I think this is a motheroard problem. My guess would be that the fan may have quit and the unit has overheated. Which would be expensive to fix. Chek if you have warranty. And check repair costs @ playstation site. Good Luck

Red light flashing/won't turn on

you are right about replacing the thermal compound between the cpu/gpu and heat sync. the gpu and cpu may need to be refolowed also. another tip is dont over tighten the screws. Tip: keep your ps3 flat do not keep it standing. when it is standing and heats up the thermal compound can start to move away from the heat sync. Keeping it flat will help extend the life PS3 at least from the overheating issue.
