Water leak Fridgidaire gallery series GLRS267zaq3. When the water line is turned on to supply water to dispenser and ice maker, water leaks in the back wall and freezes over the compressor shutting down the fridge. When supply line is shut off fridge runs normally. What could be the possible problem and location of leaks. Is repair possible by novice homeowner

Thanks, I'll check that. To be clear the when the supply line from the basement is on, suppling water to the fridge to operate the ice maker and water dispenser water is leaking from what appears to be the top behind the rear inner wall and accumulating onto the COILS and ultimately shutting down the fan and then the fridge.

When I turned the supply line off in the basement and no water is in the fridge system the unit runs fine.

I will check the ice maker as you described and if you can add to the solution I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

IF THE ICE MAKER AND DISPENSER ARE BOTH OFF, THE WATER VALVE IS THE PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD ONLY BE WATER RUNNING WHEN THE ICE MAKER CALLS FOR IT, AND THAT SHOULD ONLY BE ABOUT 7 SECONDS WORTH,
(4 OUNCES).
THE ONLY THING THAT PUZZLES ME ABOUT YOUR DESCRIPTION IS THAT YOU SAY ICE FREEZES OVER THE COMPRESSOR. THE COMPRESSOR IS THE HOT ROUND OBJECT LOCATED UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR OUTSIDE THE COOLING COMPARTMNTS. FREEZING ONLY TAKES PLACE IN THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE EVAPORATOR COILS? IF THERE IS WATER THERE, THE ICE MAKER COULD BE STUCK IN THE FILL MODE AND THE BACK OF THE ICE MAKER FROZEN SO THE WATER CAN'T REACH THE MOLD OF THE ICE MAKER.
CHECK THE FRONT OF THE ICE MAKER BEHIND THE COVER FOR A BROKEN GEAR. IF IT HAS WRITING ON IT THAT SAYS DO NOT ROTATE MANUALLY, YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MODULE ON THE FRONT OF THE ICE MAKER.

IF THE WATER IS COMING FROM BEHIND THE ICE MAKER, BE SURE THE CUP ATTACHED TO THE ICE MAKER IS NOT FROZEN UP. THERE IS A SMALL HOLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CUP THAT ALLOWS WATER TO ENTER THE ICE MAKER MOLD. ALSO, CHECK THE FILL TUBE THAT RESTS

IN THE CUP. THE NEW SYSTEMS HAVE HALF A TUBE OR

TROUGH FOR THE WATER TO RUN DOWN. BE SURE THE WATER ISN'T SPLASHING OVER THE EDGE OF THE TROUGH. IF IT IS, TRY SLIDING A PLASTIC TUBE OVER TOP OF THE OPEN TROUGH.

Ice maker does not make ice

The first thing to check is that the wire bar attached to the ice maker is not locked in the up position.

Next, check that there is water pressure at the back of the refrigerator where the water supply pipe attaches.

If there is plenty of water pressure, the most common cause is a failed solenoid valve that is just past where the supply line connects.

Please report back with what you find, OK?

Water leak from ice dispenser line

hi..
Your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is probably leaking. disconnect the water line coming out of it and see if you have a slow drip. Try the dispenser to see if it's just drips after use.

For the ice maker problem, Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear. If it does, the problem is the ice maker and not the valve and line...

Ice smells, and tastes bad...no filter to change?

If you have a silver metal braided line to water source that is your problem. Replace mine with a braided vinyl line and it cured it. ps flush new line for about two minutes.

Leaking pure source 2 ice and water filter

Hi-

Three things

  • Water supply valve may not be completely open.
    Open valve completely.
  • Water supply valve may be blocked by foreign material or may not be large enough.
Supply valve must have a 1/4" opening for water to fully supply ice maker. Many self-piercing valves do not have this big of an opening. Replace water supply valve with one that has a 1/4" opening.
  • Water filter may need changing.
If equipped with a water filter, replace filter canister or cartridge.
Hope this help
