My frigidaire side by side freezer freezes up and the filter in the refrigerator leaks water. It makes ice fine but will not freeze ice cream. theres a big clump of ice in the back which is under a cover that I removed because it was hitting the fan and making a noise. got both settings on 6. I have defrosted and let it sit for 2 days and it does the same thing when it starts back up. The filter constantly leaks water in to the 1st door tray leaving a puddle.

The leaking water is the problem. it needs to be fixed, but till then defrost again, use a fan it speeds the process, SHUT OF WTER to ice maker. restart fridge it will work normally. now find parts needed to fix the ice maker water feed.
the leaking water overwhelms the defroster. and causes a coil freeze up, this impedes cooling and air circulation over the evaporator coils

SOURCE: freezer not keeping ice cream cold

One thing you can do is clean out the area under the ice box where the condenser coils are located. Make sure the fan motor is blowing under there. Clean the kickplate. Get the air restrictions out of the fins and that may bring the freezer temp back up to par.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Side-by-side not cooling or freezing

Dear customer,

We suggest u to do the follwoing checks,

  1. Hissing and popping is normal on frost free refrigerators, it is the defrost heater
  2. Check that the refrigerator is level
  3. Check the drain pan
  4. Check the condensor fan
  5. Check the evaporator fan
  6. Inspect the compressor mounts
As for th freezer's problem checkout the,
  1. Check the temperature setting
  2. Assure that there is enough room for air flow in the freezer or freezer
  3. Check for air flow restrictions in vents
  4. Test the temperature control
  5. Clean the condensor coils
  6. Check the door seals
  7. Test the door switch
  8. Test defrost heater
  9. Test defrost timer
  10. Test evaporator fan
  11. Check for a clogged drain tube
  12. Check for refrigerant leak.
Thank you. Plz rate the solution..

SOURCE: constantly defrosting freezer automatically and

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Mike

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Kenmore refrigidaire, bottom freezer

It depends somewhat on the quality of ice cream. Some brands freeze easier than others. One reason is cheaper brands have more sweetener/sugar in them.
I think if your freezer is freezing water into ice cubes, it should freeze ice cream of good quality.
Try putting the ice cream where the ice cube tray is and verify ;this.
