I have a Xerox Phaser 6130N that periodically prints black as light grey. Changing the hardware/ink seems to have no affect. However, I've found that there is some sort of calibration that the printer will do that temporarily fixes the problem. I've tried every step from the maintenance menu, with no luck. However, I just changed the driver that I'm using for the printer from the 6130N to the Xerox Phaser 6180N. After it completed printing a poor quality black page, the printer went though a "calibrating" cycle (about 30 seconds) and then the next page out was dark black. I now believe there is a required calibration that is not being triggered at appropriate intervals and that this is the cause of the "grey" poor quality black. Not sure how to trigger the calibration, but changing the driver appeared to do it. Incidentally, after returning to the original Phaser 6130N driver, the print quality remained good (dark black); so, it's not the driver... it's the calibration.

Printer is printing the black color as light grey. Toner is already exchanged.

When you print something from a website and the print box comes up, click on preferences tab, and when it comes up click on color . Then click on print in grayscale and change the setting from High Quality to Black ink only, click apply at the bottom, then OK. It should print in black ink.

Xerox Phaser 6360 Black Toner prints Light Grey

I have had to repair a few of these. Take off the sides and back of the 6360. You'll see the hoses that feed into the laser. The black one becomes unplugged from the laser. All you have to do is plug it back in. The next step can be kinda messy. Take out the black toner cartridge, and spin the motor backwards. You'll know you're going the right way because it won't turn the other way. Cycle the gear where the toner sits for about 2 revolutions. Reassemble and you should be good to go!

This thing took me 6 days to figure out the first time. Haha!

Please vote on my solution! Thanks!

My xerox phaser 6250 prints the first page fine then the black fades on the following pages

Your toner supply route is partially plugged and it can't keep up with the demand. It's not an easy process to clean it but a can of air, toner vac, and an area you don't mind getting dirty are necessary. Pull the imaging unit out and dig around, blowing and vacuuming out toner. Also, pull the black toner cartridge and work through that way as well. If your black toner is low, that might be the problem.

Xerox Phaser 6250 yellow line at far left of page

Sounds like it is time to replace the imaging drum. This is a consumable and usually done every 15-20k pages. Cost is about $250-300 and very easily replaced, fast as changing a toner.

I am assuming that you tried changing the yellow toner already? If not, do that first...

Xerox 6250dp

I had this problem when I used a generic toner. I installed a xerox cyan toner, then printed many sheets of a large blue rectangle. After about 15 pages the blue started to spread into the shape, after 30 pages the blue was back. Printing a lot of blue was necessary to get the new toner thru the system.

Xerox Phaser 6250 started printing bad

That really sounds like the imaging unit cleaner has an issue.
If you have one try the imaging unit, I really suspect that is your problem.
Black is Faded or Missing Step 1 Clean the Laser Windows and Remove Excess Toner From the Imaging Unit Step 2 Check or Replace the Imaging Unit Gear Retaining Pin Step 3 Replace the Imaging Unit (installation instructions) ic-film.gif
See if this link works. Xerox is infameous for these not working.

Specific PDF Document/Specific Print Area Black Toner Not Fusing And Flakes Off

Without a doubt you have a problem with the fuser.
What that is caused from is buildup over time of ink on the heat roller. The teflon coating wears some and the ink sticks to the aluminum instead of pealing off onto the paper.
You then do not get enough heat or perssure to "fuse" the image into the paper.
Replacine the fuser will correct the problem.

OKI c5100 Printing GREY instead of BLACK.

Not able to print a status page. Tried holding down menu 5 sec and no output. I searched the menu and am not able to find how to print status page. I did print out a demo page and the black is great but when i print out text (like the entire menu map) the black is grey. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Xerox Phaser 6250

How Brave is Jan?

Doubt it be the fuser(100 000life), "just magenta dots".... fuser would be "all smudged" or "black marks" , "the print rubs off" , "paper is creasing or jamming"

Can prove it by stopping a print (open door) when paper is1/2 way threw machine, you need to stop it before it goes threw the hot bit, so you can tell if the hot bit (fuser) puts the marks on the paper.

Transfer roller one would expect to effect whole print Smudged/Faint,uneven density

It will be the imaging unit ( 30 000 pagelife Ouch$ ) or possible leaking toner (if aftermarket)

Remove imaging unit and inspect film you should find image of lines, dots are usually chips or sticky stuff on drum surface, carefull no oily human fingers on surface please.

When stopping machine mid print and perfecting your timing, pull out the imaging unit and look at replica of your print notice if marked and where.

Hope this helps
