My new Ace 2000 garbage disposer is very loud, like their is a fork in the disposer. I'm told it is normal but that just can't be.
Jim,
You are exactly right. Knife, spoon, fork , whatever. that metal on metal sound is produced in the flail chamber.
Get a flashlight and have a look inside.
Needle nose pliers can be handy for extraction.

Down rated for not being clairvoyant. Perhaps sharing that information would have lead me to a different conclusion.
No, that sound is definitely NOT normal. The ONLY time you should hear metal on metal is when a foreign object has found it's way inside.
In the hopes of having you change the rating, I'd like to make a suggestion: Go back to where you bought it, have them plug another one in and run it. You don't need water. Then let them tell you it's normal.
If it was a contractor, chances are it's not as brand new as you think.
Please remember that our solutions are based on the information you provide. The more detailed the better. Being 'Brand New' was a key piece of data. With out it, the assumption is 'it was working,, now it is not'.
Do you follow me?
Anyway, I hope the comparison thing works out for you. It will be hard for them to to backpedal around that one.
Best regards
Mike
Thank you Jim

The disposer is brand new and just installed. The first time it was turned on it made the noise. No knife, fork, spoon or other kitchen utensil is in the flail chamber.
