Take the cartridge out and take a look at the print head. Clean the print head. Put the cartridge back in Try and feed paper (not printing anything on it, if you can not get it to just feed paper, print a blank page) and see if it still has lines. If so, you are probably going to have to clean ink from inside the paper feed area. If not, try using it for a while and if it starts again, get a replacement cartridge. You might want to save some of the bad prints to show the clerk and try to get the new cartridge under warranty.
This can happen to cartridges with attached print heads such as HP, Lexmark or
Dell. All cartridges are weighed and tested before leaving the factory so lack
of ink isn't the problem. It usually has to do with the print head of the
cartridge not having any ink to feed it. This happens because cartridges are
kept flat or upside down for weeks or months before being used and the ink
settles away from the print head. The easiest remedy is to open the box and
stand the cartridge upright for a few minutes before using. Then get a damp
paper towel, fold it into quarters and sit the cartridge print head down onto
it. Hold the cartridge down to the damp paper towel for three minutes. This will
help pull the ink out of the print heads, priming them and getting them ready to
print. Finally, install the cartridge into your printer and print a few test
pages.

Step 2 Check to see whether paper is feeding from the paper tray. If it's not leaving the tray at all, try feeding a page manually (if that's an option) or using a different paper tray. Sometimes a problem with the tray can be traced to a broken spring or a piece of plastic. Step 3 If paper is feeding from the tray but jamming in the printer, examine where the jam is occurring and then inspect the printer carefully to see if you can find what is causing the problem. A piece of paper, for instance, might be blocking the paper path. Step 4 If paper is feeding through the printer but coming out blank, check to see whether the printer is out of toner or ink. A defective toner or ink cartridge could be the problem.
