Laptop won't turn on even though it's charging.

We bought a new power cord for my laptop. The blue charging light is on but the laptop itself won't turn on.

what kind of laptop? do any lights flash when you try to turn it on? does it make a difference if you try to turn it on when the power cord is connected or not connected? what if you remove the battery, attach the power cord, and try to turn it on?

My laptop won't turn on. I tried taking out the battery, a different battery, a differnet power cord. It won't turn on. Is there a way to reset it?

Are there any lights or indications on the battery itself that might tell you if the battery is good? I had a laptop with a similar problem and it turned out to be both a bad battery and a bad "power brick". replacing both fixed my issues. Also, try holding the power cable at the point where it connects to the laptop and push to the left or right. A friend's laptop would only start if you held the power cable to the left. Otherwise, it sounds like a mother board issue. Sorry.

My Asus Eee PC 1001PXD battery won't charge. The charges light is on but nothing happens and now the battery is completely dead and I cannot get my notebook on

Your problem is far more than the battery. Your problem is the power cord. Laptops for the most part will work off the power cord even if the battery is dead or even if the battery is not in the laptop. Your power cord charges your battery and if it is bad it will not charge it. You've been working off your battery even though you might have had the power cord plugged in, but if it's bad and not charging the battery, the battery drains and then you can't get the laptop to power on at all. Go purchase a ac adapter and power cord that is designed for your system. Don't buy one that some of the big box stores sell that has a an interchangeable plug at the end designed to fit just about any laptop. Those will eventually burn *********** board out.

My Acer Aspire 5630 laptop will not charge all the time, even though the charger is plugged into it with the green light indicating its working. Its charges every so often, then stop, and my computer shuts...

Hello.
The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem. The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.
If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Another suggestion is to remove the heatsink and apply new thermal paste or the motherboard may need replacing. Leave it to an expert if you are not familiar.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I am having problems with my Compaq nx6110 laptop not charging. It is not the battery, as I replaced it at the end of December. The problem seems to be that the charge isn't reaching the battery,...

If you remove the battery, does the AC Adapter power the computer? Does the laptop have a barrel type power connector? I have replaced several power connectors for broken center pin. Does wiggling the power connector affect the charging light?

Laptop Not Getting Power

There could be a number of resons for this. Some thoughts:
1) Was your laptop working fine before you bought this new adapter? Eg. did it work with the previous one.
2) Are you positive that it is compatible? You should check all the power ratings against the old adapter (voltage output, current output).
3) Make sure the connector that plugs into the back of the laptop is a perfect fit. Connectors have a + and -. The outside metal ring may fit, but the inside 'pin' may be too small and not making contact with the receving part of the laptop.
4) Make sure that the connector inside the laptop has not broken. Easy way is to get a pencil with eraser and stick it in there and wiggle it around. If it moves sustantially, you may have some connector pins that have become unsoldered. If so, you need to get this fixed.

I have a gateway ma7 laptop and press power and get nothing

When the computer is off, unplug the power cord from the laptop and then plug it back in. See if the charge light (lightning bolt symbol next to the led) comes on or turns green/blue. If it doesn't your power supply may not be working, even if the light on the supply is on. Second is the battery may be damaged. Remove the battery and see if you can power on at all.
If it boots with only the cord, the battery is bad/shorted forcing shutdown.
