When you get an HP 74/75 integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels cannot be reset (HP has a smart chip embedded within the nozzle plate at base of ink cartridge which counts the drops and then registers as empty).....so you'll just need to live with it and ignore 'ink low', 'non-genuine', 'counterfeit' messages and similar while you are using these types of aftermarket supplies. By using refilled cartridges you will always have this problem. Each cartridge has a chip that lets the printer know when it is full or empty. By pressing the ok button you may be able to clear this message. However, most of the time you can still be able to print and ignore the message.

I have a HP Deskjet D4260 and when i print something using HP Deskjet D4200 series its black and white. I need the pictures to be in color

U must be using HP74, 75 cartridge for your printer.

There are few reasons you are getting black and white (gray)...for printing job.

1. No color ink.
- If you are out of color ink.. that's what it happens.
- check your ink level through control panel.

2. Printer set up. (I think this is pretty much the reason you are not getting color)
- First, check your printer setting.
If they are on gray scale mode, pls chang to color.
How? when you click the print (through file manu), there are option for control panel on your screen. Click that option and will see some detail option you can choose from size, print quality.
Among the print quality option, pls choose, color mode instead of gray mode. That's it.

If you would like to save money, try refill kit by "ROADINK".
Not only they are easy, but also the printing quality is good.
For your better understanding pls check out my youtube video.
And will see how easy ink refill can be done.

My HP Deskjet D4260 printer has been unused for 2 years. I have been told it would be useless to replace dried cartridges, because the inkjets themselves are probably clogged, and therefore the printer is...

That is absolutely not true. The printer you have uses integrated print head cartridges. This means every time you replace the ink cartridges you are replacing the print heads. Throw out the dried up ink cartridges and buy new ones. Your printer takes the HP 74 black and HP 75 color cartridges. There are XL versions of these cartridges that hold more ink and are a better value.

You could try to do a power down reset and reinstall your cartridges.
First turn off computer
remove the 2 ink cartridges,
press power to turn off printer
unplug printer from ac outlet
wait 3 minutes
plug back printer
turn on printer
wait until printer stop
reinstall both cartridges
turn on computer

Printer says it's out of ink, but it's not!

if you refill the same cartridge that was in the printer
the printer would recognized the cartridge as being out off ink
you need to install another different black cartridge
the printer will identify this as a new cartridge
you then reinstall the previous cartridge back in
the printer will now recognized it as a new cartridge

Unable to print with new ink carts

Usually, that message means that your cartridge is dead. Try removing it, clean the electric contacts on it and the ones on the cartridge carrier. Put it back in. If that doesn't help, you will need to buy a new color cartridge.
If you do not have a replacement cartridge, you can still print in, what HP calls "ink backup mode". Simply remove the problem cartridge, and print with the remaining one, in this case, the black one.
  • If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.
