There is a small sensor that detects "door open".
If that sensor is broken/malfunctioning, then you will get the indicator at the "wrong" time.
Check that sensor -- see if you can "jam" it into the "closed" position.

As a System Engineer, I consider myself knowledgeable in diagnosing computer related problems. In this instance, I tried everything I knew and wasted a few hours but this solution worked like magic. My sensor was actually broken.

    Thanks for the solution.

I have a phillips ipf525 could you show me how to set up

According to the user guide, the problem you're experiencing could be due to the following:

Print cartridge access door might be open.
• Close the access door.

Print cartridges might be missing or not installed properly.
• Re-insert the print cartridges and make sure they are properly seated.

There might be a problem with the print cartridge.
• Close the access door. If the light continues to blink, one of the print cartridges is defective.

Do the following:
1) Remove the black (or photo) print cartridge.
2) Close the access door.

If the "check print cartridge" light blinks, the tri-color print cartridge is defective and must be replaced.

If the light does not blink, the black (or photo cartridge) is defective.

In all probability, the contacts on the contact ribbon are not connecting properly. Take a common pencil eraser and rub lightly across the contacts on the ribbon to remove any contaminants or debris.

Check the contacts inside the cartridge carrier to ensure that they're not dirty, bent or broken.

You should also inspect the carrier itself. If the plastic frame is cracked or broken and the cartridge can wobble around, it will usually install without any trouble but when you close the access door the carriage immediately moves back into print-ready position. The cartridge will shift and break its' connection. This will cause these types of errors as well.

If it's cracked or broken, go and get a new printer.

Paper jam?

Check Paper light flashes but there isn't a paper related problem The check paper light may also flash if there are other problems. Verify the following conditions:
  • Verify that the print cartridge door is closed.
  • The print carriage may be jammed, follow these steps to correct the problem:
    1. Open the print cartridge access door. If the print carriage can move, it should move to center. If the print carriage stays all the way left, unplug the power cord and then plug it back in. This will reset the unit and may allow the print carriage to move from the left.
    2. Disconnect the power cord from the all-in-one.
    3. Remove both print cartridges.
    4. Move the print carriage left and right slightly to verify that the print carriage will move freely. If the print carriage will not move freely, check for obstructions.
    5. Close the print cartridge access door.
    6. Plug the power cord back in.
    7. After the all-in-one initializes, the print cartridge light will flash. Open the access door and install the print cartridges.
    8. Close the print cartridge access door. If the problem returns, remove the print cartridges and wipe the electrical contacts before reinstalling them.
  • Try to make a copy. If the all-in-one pulls in paper but cannot make a copy, there may be a problem with the scanner mechanism. Contact HP for assistance.

Says printer cartridge access door open when closed

No it will not complain for an open door if there is no cartridge. There will be a separate warning for no cartridge or toner not installed error. You might want to play around with the cartridge door a little and see for a possible paper stuck somewhere inside.
