Coffee is really bitter and doens't taste good

We have the same machine at home, use the same coffee, but the coffee at the office is really bitter and doesn't taste good

  • Anonymous Jun 14, 2010

I definately descaled it. Ran 4 reservoirs of water afterward. I have since realized that using spring water (i know it sounds silly) actaully made it taste better.

Lavazza Jolie Pod Coffee Machine, the water in the dispenser leaks out of the machine, and no coffee comes out of the coffee pod

Here are some possible reasons why the water in your Lavazza Jolie Pod Coffee Machine leaks out of the machine and no coffee comes out of the coffee pod:
  • The water tank is not filled properly. Make sure that the water tank is filled to the correct level. The water level should be between the minimum and maximum marks on the water tank.
  • The coffee pod is not inserted properly. Make sure that the coffee pod is inserted into the machine properly. The coffee pod should be inserted all the way into the machine until it clicks into place.
  • The coffee pod is clogged. If the coffee pod is clogged, the water will not be able to flow through the pod and into the cup. Try using a different coffee pod or try cleaning the coffee pod.
  • The machine is not descaled properly. If the machine is not descaled regularly, it can build up calcium deposits, which can prevent the water from flowing through the machine properly. Try descaling the machine with a descaling solution.
  • The machine is defective. If you have checked all of the above and the problem persists, then the machine may be defective. In this case, you will need to contact Lavazza customer support for further assistance.
Here are some additional tips that might help:
  • Use fresh, cold water. Stale or warm water can affect the taste of the coffee.
  • Use a good quality coffee. Cheap coffee beans can make the coffee taste bitter.
  • Grind the coffee beans to a medium-coarse grind. A too fine grind can make the coffee taste bitter, while a too coarse grind can make the coffee taste weak.
  • Clean the coffee machine regularly. A dirty coffee machine can make the coffee taste bitter.
I hope this helps!

How can I avoid bitter coffee?

If the water that comes into contact with the coffee grounds is too hot, you will extract bitter elements from the coffee. The water should not be boiling when poured on the coffee grounds. Coffee oils, fats and sediment are the natural parts of the coffee bean that causes bitterness by forming as the brew ages. The longer the coffee sits the stronger it tastes.

Bitter taste

You will likely find the bitterness is a function of your coffee bean choice or the 'roast' component of that coffee. Darker roasts tend to taste bitter.

Over time, my coffee has become acrid and bitter. I use fresh ground coffee and clean my pot regularly...what else should I do?

There may be some buildup in the machine other than in the pot itself. To test this, try running the brew cycle with no beans. Taste the hot water. If it's acrid and bitter, your problem lies in buildup (such as the basket). Otherwise, if the hot water just tastes like hot water, then the temperature of the water has probably become too high (that will make coffee tastes more bitter). If this is the problem, there's probably no fix (just make sure you fill the reservoir with cold, not hot, water).

Ran descale program and coffee still tastes funny (bitter)

If you are using a Claris filter, please remove this from the watertank. The descaling agent will clog the filter and make the water taste bad. After descaling, also be sure to rinse the watertank so there`s no resedue of the solvent left in the tank.

However, bitter taste on the coffe usually is related to the coffee side; Try to run a cleaning program. And check grinder settings. If the powder is to fine, it will increase the contact time, and that will make the coffee bitter. My advise is to clean the machine and experiment a little with the grinder settings.

Good luck!

BITTER TASTING COFFEE

I would check the temperature of water. Sounds like it might be too hot. The temp of the water should be between 192 and 197. Colder and its sour, and hotter and its bitter.

Saeco Aroma now only produce bitter coffee...

Hi,
besides a good coffee machine, 2 things are critical when you want a good cup of coffee; the coffee itself and the water. When in France, i tasted some of the best coffee I have ever had, but they always told me that the quality and purity of the water made for 50% of that great taste. Has your municipality changed anything about the water treatment recently? Do you drink that same water and find it tastes funny? Perhaps bottled water is a solution in your case. Hoping this helps.
